I wish they'd scrap the live action movie idea so I wouldn't have to go through another year of garbage movie toys.

I hope Hasbro now looks back what happened to past succesful colorful Toy Franchises, and their totally different Live Action interpretations.
Take Masters of the Universe for example. One of the best selling Toys in the 80's, killed by a movie in which everyone wore black suits and a story that changed the setting into an unrecognisable mess. No wonder that the Rise of the Cobra Toys didn't sold well as expectet. No Kid want's 20 Figures who all look like Snake Eyes with different heads. Characters in colorful suits = more colorful Toys = more cash for Hasbro. And please have the balls and name the enemy! The World is openly fighting terrorism for almost 10 years now, and we don't get a balls-to-the-wall movie about it? Cobra isn't into Terrorism anymore, and now only a criminal organisation? Who are you kidding Hasbro? Don't anybody remember the Cold War times and how Hollywood wasn't shy to do movies against Communism? Movies like Rambo, Red Dawn, Rocky IV and many others had a portion in winning this cold war, because even the enemy watched these movies on their bootleged VHS, and piddled their pants. G.I. Joe 2 should be about the Military in colorful suits fighting Terrorism around the world. Re-watch Red Dawn and you see how far you can go with PG-13. |

I think they can pretty much treat a GI Joe sequel like the Incredible Hulk. It's a reboot but can still exist within the same world as the previous movie. A re-sequel if you will.
The GI Joe team is already formed. Keep the basic team but lose Duke (at least recast or have Baroness turn evil and put him in a coma) and Ripcord (although he wasn't that bad). Zartan is still the President and will be causing trouble, or at least hiding Cobra's actions, for the Joes. Snake-Eyes is confronted by Storm Shadow (the cold water preserved him until a Cobra trooper rescued him) who reveals that he didn't kill their Master. They discover that the killer was Zartan, and they have to team up and infiltrate the White House (or Camp David) to kill Zartan. Maybe Scarlett can help, which provides an opportunity to establish her relationship with SE. Cobra should be instigating the creation of Cobra Island. With Zartan as the President, he can help get it official recognition by the world governments. Joes have to go around the globe tracking down the island plot. Have the Alpha Team members from the first movie split up and team-up with specialists in these different environments. Have the teams simultaneously be at these different environments. It allows for cross-cutting which greatly increases tension and pacing. ie Heavy Duty goes to a jungle environment and teams up with Recondo and Footloose, Breaker goes to the Artic and teams with Snow Job and Frostbite, Ripcord goes to the desert and teams up with Dusty, etc. I don't think they have to deny the first movie. Just change some things up a bit. Recast Duke, at the very least. Don't mention the accellerator suits. Give the Joes some costumes that are updates of their traditional looks, like Resolute/POC. Lose the massive infrastructure of the Joe team (ie basically cut down on having countless greenshirts), by saying the team has become lean and more mobile. And give the Joes some cool vehicles to use against cool Cobra vehicles (a VAMP and HISS would be awesome). All these changes are possible while retaining a link to the original movie. |
