Do we know for sure that IDW is picking up the license? I really hope that the new series will be a continuation of existing continuity rather than reboot. Reloaded was cool, but I don't want to scrap 25 years of continuity and start from scratch!
Transformers comics have suffered from doing so in my opinion. When Dreamwave first brought back the series, the animation was great (and has continued to be so at IDW), but they chose to follow a hybrid cartoon continuity instead of the comics. Then IDW got ahold of the license and started all over again! It's been confusing to try and follow the storylines. Does anyone know WHY DDP lost the license? Also, I am a little behind because I usually wait until the comics have been collected as a graphic novel. If DDP has lost the license, does that mean that the last 12 issues won't be put out as graphic novels (ie, should I be trying to snap up these issues on stands now?). |

I will not buy a reboot. Not even the first issue. I will read that in the store out of pure curiousity. i see no reason a reboot and a continuation of the real series can't continue at the same time?

worst thing i can say about DDP is that they have a tendency to kill off characters in order to get a shock value.
it means more than that. personally, i would like to see some sort of continuity. they did it before, and i think that is something that makes the franchise special. you don't have to keep up with all the different versions. |

I loved G.I. Joe for its nature to continue scene after scene, page after page, sub-plots, soap operas, world change, status quo change. I want to see the change and "clean-up" that follows W.W. 3 and those comics Hama is putting out through Hasbro barely count serially speaking. Let's reboot all Marvel titles. Just cancel all of them and let Ultimate take over completely. I mean the characters are old and the stories the same and there's soooo many back issues, i just can't keep up. That's what many of you are implying may occur to G.I. Joe after 36. If that's the case, I hope they make all action figures 5 3/4" cause hey, i'm all about change.

I just picked up the issue yesterday, read it last night and I gotta say that I'm kinda torn...
Spoilers below....... . . . . . . . - An unmasked Destro (what's with the blonde hair??), Baroness, and SS show up at the cabin where the Joes are holed up. - SE & SS have a tender moment - Baroness makes a little "Marvel comic run" dig at Scarlett with the "how's the head?" comment (Baroness shot Scarlett in the head towards the end of the Marvel run) and that was a nice little acknowledgement - Billy's body is sorta seen hanging at Fort Meade and that creeped out Major Bludd - We learn that the Strato-Viper that stole the plane last issue was Barrell Roll - Hawk, Scarlett, Spirit, Colton and Jane leave to take back Fort Meade - CC plans on detonating nukes placed at the Arctic and the Amazon The one thing that pisses me off the most is the overuse of Colton. He's always seen as the top leader when it should be Hawk, and don't get me started on the wheelchair...I'm glad that DDP is losing the license and I hope that IDW sets the Joe world right again.... |

I think the continuity should continue, but I would rather have a new continuity rather than the good old one ruined by a new license holder. For example lets say WW3 ends with a climactic yet definitive ending. The true end to the war with Cobra. Lets say all the crucial stuff goes down and all the old rivalries are settled, to the point that its a good ending that should be left alone. At that point, I would rather have the new licenseholder make their own continuity, not ruin the good ending DDP gave to RAH. The way the story is going, it looks like there will be no turning back, and DDP is definitely ending with a blast.
One thing I will hope for is that the current writer follows the title to the new licenseholder. I have truly enjoyed this WWIII story, and will be sad when it ends. Like Shin said, hopefully WWIII finishes up with a definitive ending, and the loose ends are all tied up (which after reading the newest issue, it appears that some ends are already tied.) |

Frankly, I feel the oposite. I'll only be done with the comics if IDW gets the license...

I dont have a problem with IDW so much its the trashing of 25 years of continuity, Course I would like DDP to keep it but if the continuity is continued with another publisher then Im fine, but if its scrapped Im not buying, Dont have the energy or heart to start back at day one
