Given that Marvel seems to be pulling their heads out of their butts, or they atleast seem to be trying to, when it comes to thier movies decided to hire these guys for Deadpool gives me some hope.
While I'm not going to bash RoC there were alot of dialogue and storyline points I found a bit eyeroll worthy. Hopefully these guys take the movie, and the characters seriously, but still try and make it a good time. While I liked RoC for what it was, I think it could have been quite a bit better, and had there not been a writer's strike, and maybe a different director, they might have found a way to balance a movie designed to grab a new generation of kids, and one that pays homage to the line's history and fans. Being negative at this point doesn't make much sense. The fact that they decided to go with a different writing team hopefully means they think they can do better and are shooting for it.

To me atleast, It makes it now seem ridonkulously far fetched that Duke's unit would be selected for that transport, without some sort of manipulation. The belief that we are watching a story naturally unfold is completely shot by it. It makes the storyline seem more like an amusement park ride where you are strapped in from the beginning and already know where the ride lets out, instead of a journey where the course and destination is navigated by the characters along with the audience. I know Hollywood action films are all about formula, but there didn't seem to be much else to the writing here. JMO, though.

And don't forget that CC seeks out SE and tries to convince him to become a revolutionary. And one of SE's last missions in 'Nam involved storming a building and shooting and killing two Viet Cong who just happened to kill a european noble peacenik who was in the middle of a warzone with his kid sister who grew up to become a terrorist who just happened to join the organization that was headed by CC and was enemies with SE and his organization. And the arms dealer the Cong were supposed to meet was from MARS and just happened to have his son along who just happened to grow up and become Destro and join Cobra Commander and the Baroness who just happened to be the young girl in 'Nam. And that SE was disfigured on a mission to rescue a CIA operative who just happened to be his dead sister's ex-fiance.

I hope the next movie comes off as less "trying to capture the younger audience", and more "let's just make a damn good movie, sequels are typically worse then their predecessors(Dark Knight and ESB being rare exceptions), so let's aim higher and try to make this one a lot better than ROC). Cobra has risen in the 1st movie, so their origin is out of the way, hopefully now we can see the ass kicking part. Maybe even with Cobra winning, that would be cool. Have Cobra Commander go from a guy with a laughable "evil guy garbled dialogue" voice to a guy that comes off like the Crimson Twins from G.I. Joe: Cobra. Quote:

I don't know. Alot of the dialogue was disappointing, and hokey. Plus, all the tied together origins were pointless and silly. They could have either made Rex the CC, and left the Baroness with her original origin, or rebooted the Baroness and left CC a mystery. Keeping them all tied to Duke, and his origin is just overdone, and honestly sad writing.

Joe go for the more serious movie approach, at this point I know it's too much to expect anything like Platoon, et al. Any movie that primarily appeals to capture a younger audience will only remain on the minds of that younger audience as they grow older in the future. Yet good movies stay on the minds of a wider range of movie goers. Sure some of you hate what Bay did with TF1, but what I LOVED was that he didn't limit it just to kids. With G.I. Joe, it definitely seemed like the primary audience was children with some hints of nostalgia to lure guys like us in. Just focus on making a good movie and it'll do better. |

Kind of like making Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow and Stalker all having served on the same LRRP squad and then SE's sister being killed in the same car accident that killed Cobra Commander's brother and having Hawk be the officer that meets SE at the airport and having Storm Shadow's uncle being killed by Zartan with help from Firefly and having another former LRRP squad member become a Crimson Guardsman that just happens to end up stationed right next to the Joe's secret HQ and has a son that goes into the military and just happens to end up in Special Forces and an elite unit headed by Duke and then becomes SE's apprentice.

I definitely agree about the whole REX being CC and Baroness being his Sister since the original series had such a heavy emphasis on Destro-CC-Baroness love triangle. Now if they try and pull that off all we get is creepy deformed incest. XD Plus now who do we have for Cobra eyecandy?

I think the writer's strike really killed a lot of the potential. In interviews, Beattie said that he was improvising the script and writing stuff in AS filming was going on. To me, it doesn't sound like there was a lot of time to turn back on a lot of the decisions made during filming. Hopefully this time around, it's different. I DEFINITELY agree that there were a lot of eyeroll worthy moments, and too much suspension of belief.
I hope the next movie comes off as less "trying to capture the younger audience", and more "let's just make a damn good movie, sequels are typically worse then their predecessors(Dark Knight and ESB being rare exceptions), so let's aim higher and try to make this one a lot better than ROC). Have Cobra Commander go from a guy with a laughable "evil guy garbled dialogue" voice to a guy that comes off like the Crimson Twins from G.I. Joe: Cobra. True. On paper it sounded much more terrible than it actually was onscreen. A lot of the entire plot came off as rushed. Did I enjoy the movie? Yes. Did I think it was great? Yes. Do I think it will be remembered as one of the best movies of the decade? Not even close. I'd prefer it if G.I. Joe go for the more serious movie approach, at this point I know it's too much to expect anything like Platoon, et al. Any movie that primarily appeals to capture a younger audience will only remain on the minds of that younger audience as they grow older in the future. I too, just hope they try and out do RoC, then rest on the last film.
