I skipped over this all day since I thought it was the FCBD posting. Then I read the title and now I can't stop smiling.
Best news since the 25th line. |

This kinda reminds me of the X-men Forever series at Marvel..but good..and starting at the number they left off at. I really like what IDW is doing with the Joe brand and this is another great move. I'm not too sure about wiping out of Devils Due run though because for the most part I really enjoyed it. I will say around the Red Shadows arc that they lost their touch and they never really found it again till the middle of America's Elite.

DDP's biggest issue was not doing what they should have done to begin with. Give and leave Larry at the reigns.
Larry best knew these characters, and how best to use them, and the fact that he was pretty much left to run the old Marvel run as he wanted and it's easily considered the basis and the best written Joe ever. Larry should have written the main book, and while other writers could and should have been brought in for the sub books like the multiple Declassifieds titles, Frontline and such to expand less used characters or spotlight characters like Flint, Larry should have had final say in what made print. I say this because of two things...1) Larry rules, and 2) DDP's run suffered from lack of one creative vision Josh started, and sorta let others do Frontline until Josh got tired, and lets be honest Josh wasn't exactly the best writer of Joe, but when he passed the torch he handed it to Jerwa, and for whatever reason didn't let Jerwa do his job...that mussed up the story. Then they rushed to bring Casey in further messing up what should have been an awesome story of the Red Shadows. Casey took over and had NO feel for the characters at all. He was brought in to give the book a fresh spin, and he did it by resurrecting a dead and obscure character from 20 years ago...in a story that seems like such a rip off of Jerwa's Frontline run. He butchered the story even further with his death and resurrection of Snake Eyes story. But Casey wasn't the only problem...the Dreadnoks Declassified book was aweful and unnecessarily confusing story that just annoyed everyone. Not to mention the completely un-needed Scarlet Declassifed origin that for some reason had Iron Grenadiers in it years before the unit was formed. Honestly if ARAH is gonna come back Larry needs to be firmly at the helm. I'm sorry I'm grateful to Hama for his vision, and I think he should always have a place, but the main book? nope. Origins and his frontline run both stunk as writting, to be fair interference from Blaylock and Hasbro didn't help(nor did it in the old series) He has a writting story that is better for kids honestly, just kinda wondering aimlessly. Neat things happen along the way but he doesn't have planned out arcs and a longterm goal, I think Joe needs that! As for DDP problems, i think you mostly pinpointed them, Blaylock. He interferred with Jerwa's story, and rushed it. Casey should never have been brought in. Ae was just plain awful intill he left. Casey made some fast cash from suckers and that's plan and simple. Blaylock wanted to do something unJoe like with him. Some of the Ae problems weren't even Casey's fault (the uniforms were not his idea) |

I hope they forget the DDP stuff. It started out ok, but I finally stopped reading it when they killed Lady Jaye. What turned me off the most was they put Hawk in a wheel chair. What I loved the most of the marvel run was that Hawk was a main character. He was in it more than Duke was.

So long as Cobra Commander is not portrayed as a weak, tool I am excited.

Very, very, very, very, VERY COOL!!!!
When I read this, my son and I danced a merry jig. We met Larry at SDCC last year, and I told him how glad I was that he'd written such great stories for GI Joe, and that I enjoyed them as a kid, still do as an adult, and now can share them with my son. I wasn't able to do that with DDP books, what with all the bad language. Here's hoping these books keep the language clean like in the old school books. Go Larry! Yo Joe! But getting kids to read comics this days might not even be worth trying anymore, unless comics start showing up on things likexboxlive i think they are headed quickly to the grave. |

wait wait wait a second... wasn't this a one-shot for free comic day?
And btw, DDP/Image's run is nothing short of fantastic. The ONLY reason I got back into joe; hooked from issue #1. I'll say it- best comic run of all time, with AoA coming in a close second.

I'll be in if they don't contradict DDP. It could be done, it would be hard but it could be done. There was still some kind of massive clean up battle, and hunting for Cobra soldiers and affiliates. G.I.Joe could officially not exist in the comics, but Hawk could be running side missions with the guys we know and love. I doubt any of that will happen though, i'd say it will be a DDP wipe, and further fractioning Joe is turning into something resembling TF continuity. I don't like all these different yet similar universes |

If DDP had never been around we wouldn't have seen Wraith, Kamakura, Aramda, Overkill as we know him know, not to mention Duke as more than just a cardboard cut out. CC was often way more threatening (especially in WWIII) than in Marvel (c'mon kicking a puppy?) Not to mention designs that went beyond just the toys! Oh did I mention the new Dreadnok logo? DDP brought us a TON of great things. |
