To the naysayers: Rather than gripe about what you don't see, look for clues into what's coming next.
Today's Hasbro press release confirms the Cobra CLAW will be in a later assortment of $14.99 vehicles, probably squared against a similarly sized Joe vehicle. I loved this thing as a kid and can't wait to pick up a few to fly alongside Trouble Bubbles. You'll also notice the MASS Device piece with the three crystal containers are empty. Yet at Toy Fair, they have the crystals in them. One filled container comes with Radioactive Snake Eyes. Another with Cobra Commander. The third remains a mystery. That said, here are my thoughts on what's been revealed. The Good: - Attention to detail and what matters to fans. The accessories, entertainment packs and vehicles are chock full of small details that make them much more desirable after seeing pics. Can't wait for some side-by-side comparison of vintage to 25th retooled vehicles. - Mass Effect Device. Holy %$#! I was completely turned off when the first Cobra Commander and Baroness M.E. figure pictures leaked. They came across as pointless figures on their own. Now that I've seen "the device" and it's sheer scale and awesomeness, I've been enlightened by the diorama potential and am dedicated to buying every figure related to it... repaint or not. - BAT. This is an insane figure with great accessories and attention to detail (there's that word again) by the designers. The tooling must have cost a mint for a single figure, and there's a lot of plastic packed into that package with alternate body parts and accessories. This figure raises a good point. If Hasbro has to put out an entire wave of repaints -- which they are -- so substantial tooling costs can go into churning out a figure of BAT's quality and value, I hope they do it more often. - Small and mid vehicle price points. A NEW TOOL trouble bubble, RAM, and two figures for $15? A beefed up (wow, it looks good now) VAMP and Clutch for $15?? That's the bargain of the year right there. - Hasbro listening to us. We b!tched about Lady Jaye's hat and they've offered an alternative. We b!tched about vehicles and they've cracked the door, leaving it up to our wallets to decide how far it opens. We cried for a BAT, Trouble Bubble, cartoon-related product, better V1 Roadblock face (the face paint job looks much better in the WD pack). All are coming. We asked for secondary characters and they continue to show up in comic packs. Whatever Hasbro's budget is, the decision makers are doing a fine job of making sure we get what we want, and then some. Not showing everything - I realize there are a band of posters underwhelmed by what Hasbro has revealed. On the contrary, I think they've played it perfectly thus far. Enough product has been shown to get me giddy for what I want, while additional confirmed items like Quick Kick, Falcon/Nemesis Enforcer, Cobra CLAW, and others will be fun to see appear for the first time at the collector's club website. If Hasbro blew their entire line-up today, the following 4 to 5 months would see "new" news slow to a crawl. The Bad Vehicle Pairing - Trouble Bubble is perhaps THE most army built Cobra small vehicle from the vintage line. In order to get one that should have a price point by itself around $5, we have to buy a RAM and Breaker? with it. The only silver lining is "break"ing down Breaker into greenshirt customs. Major Bludd - Yes, the headsculpt is great, and I'm not up in arms about reusing Zartan's mold as some others are. But the recolored thigh pads and skull belt buckle draw my eyes in every time I look at him. Not good. Serpentor Air Chariot - Wow, a completely new tool. Didn't expect that. But I did expect it to come with V1 Serpentor. I deliberately skipped the DD 25th Serpentor anticipating this vehicle and pack-in figure. Now if I want the chariot, I have to take the DD Serpentor with it. Bah humbug to that. HISS Tanks - So, what gives? Hasbro's press release shows the V1 HISS, while the TF mock up is clearing a repainted DTC miss, complete with rocket launchers intact on the treads (minus the rockets). I already own several DTC HISS tanks so I'm not in the market for more unless it's been retooled with something new that dramatically raises the bar. BAT - Wait, isn't he awesome? Yes. But he's going to be near impossible to find in the store unless he's THREE to a case through the first revision. Hasbro and their retailer partners need to work harder to even out distribution (I still haven't seen wave 2 comic packs, much less wave 3, or single packs wave 4). Mass Device Cobra Trooper - This guy should have been a single-carded figure, and I feel like I'm reliving the Cobra 5-pack debacle all over again. There's still time, Hasbro. He's fine in the pack, but put him on a card, too. Movie Preview Superhuman Suits - I'm all for taking a futuristic approach with the film as it needs to offer something "new" to draw in big crowds, something a straight up realistic military film can not do. The thought of Joe team members getting into suits so they can jump and run faster sounds like Power Rangers to me. The other stuff, including what was leaked in the removed script reviews (I keep thinking about a toy boat/sub that launches 4 Sharc's from it, as previously described as being in the film) sounds a heck of a lot like the cartoon... which is where GI Joe's biggest nostalgic audience lies. |

The other thing is the various versions allow kids to get a CC or SE weither they got into it near the beginning, half-way through or what-have-you.
I'm rather excited about at least half of what has been shown. |

Out of everything I think the only complaints I have are the DDP Serpentor coming with the Air Chariot. Just what I need another of that lame mold. Oh well M-80, and my wallet crying from all the Ram/Trouble Bubble packs I'm going to buy. I hope there are people out there that want to buy just the joe half because I want a lot of Trouble Bubbles and Televipers!

I am more than pleased by what i have seen so far. I showed my wife tonight and she said i reminded her of a little kid telling his mom what he wanted for christmas. After hearing that i thought to my self, i feel like a kid at christmas with all of this great stuff coming out...

I agree with you. Like I said, if Hasbro is catering to the collectors, which it seems they are, then they have done a bang up job. They've made changes where we've asked them to, offered vehicles, etc. etc. I'm just afraid that they'll run out of time, we won't see any other characters, then the movie comes out. At that point, they'll be focusing on the movie line.

Well, I've been on and off this thread all day. I got to say I'm pretty stoked for the year ahead. I liked almost everything I saw. I won't complain, hell we get a bunch of cool stuff this year. I don't know how I'll achieve getting it all, but I'll find a way. I'd like to take the time to thank the staff of Hisstank for their job well done, and for providing us the updates throughout the day. I also think, and this is just my opinion, that the figure eveyone is calling Steeler is actually a Green Shirt instead. I could be wrong, this is only a guess. Hasbro has listened to the fans, and collectors of GI Joe, and I believe they're doing the best they can to provide us what we want. I've read alot of posts today from members grumbling about this, and that, and all I can say is it's better to get something than nothing at all. The reworked vehicles, Mass Device, Weather Dominator, DVD's, and new figs = 100% win IMO. Yo Joe!!!

Yeah, think of it this way. Hasbro could have easily stopped after the original 25 figures we were supposed to see and said that is enough. But instead, they continue to put out more and more figures for us, they are trying to listen to what collectors want and they are trying to make it happen while trying to keep up with demand. I think hasbro is doing an excellent job, and as a collector, i will most definitely buy everything they offer from this line...

If we all keep buying up everything they put out they will only keep releasing more and more! As long as they are making a profit from this line, we can expect to see more figures made. Good times ahead, friends!

Is it possible that the black Hiss tank shown is actually for the 12 inch Joes? It looked awfully detailed, and big. Just a thought.
Thinking back to the giant Taun Taun w/ Han Solo type big.... |
