Seeing the ad says 2008, Hasbo said 12" in 2008, & everything looks retro, I think they will be releasing figures now with a classic feel, while leading up to the new movie as a continuation of the line in 2009. ^_-

Sideshow http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/c....cgi?item=2110 http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/c...ource=starhome is going up against things like: Hot Toys http://www.toys2.net/product.php?pro...cat=112&page=1 http://www.toys2.net/product.php?pro...cat=112&page=2 Medicom http://www.toys2.net/product.php?pro...cat=104&page=1 It doesn't measure up. $150-200 figures (unfortunately) beat the you know what out of Sideshow's $55 figures. If Hot Toys had the license, I'd be turning a freakin' backflip. Maybe Sideshow will go all out on these and include really detailed outfits, lots of accessories, and non-huge goofy headsculpts. |

Well I'll probably never buy 12" figures but I have to admit that teaser was pretty damn cool (the Baroness shot was my favorite ). Although I doubt the film will ever look that good.

With Sideshow's specialty being actor likenesses, one can only assume these will be 12" figures from the movie.
My guess: Sideshow will make high-end figures while Hasbro will make the affordable Toys R Us version 12" figures. So, those who don't want to pay 70 bucks per figure will still have Hasbro's 20-30 dollar versions to choose from. Mass market retailers are not big on 12" figures. It makes sense why Hasbro gave Sideshow the license. Sideshow markets to specialty stores, and etailers. They've done quite well on their Star Wars line, and that was probably enough reason for Hasbro to give them the license. Rather than having to compromise sculpt, articulation, and multiple accessories to fit a set retail price point, I think Hasbro made the best decision by letting Sideshow go all out with these figures. Sideshow is not bound by the limitations of mass market retail. They can cater to us, not Walmart. For that reason alone, the figures they make will blow away all previous gijoe releases. Those were for the kids, these are for us. These will probably $40-$50. BTW, looking forward to a V1 Cobra Storm Shadow!!!!!! |
