I think some of you guys are making a bigger deal out of Bench-Press/ RockNRoll file name, just because they share the same filename, doesnt mean they are the same person, Hasbro has done this before with Airwave/Col. Courage, both share the same filename Cliff v Mewett,
YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Colonel Courage YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Airwave So in my Opinion, Bench-Press and RocknRoll two different people, do a search of your own name and see how many people have the same name as you, so it really isnt a big deal |

You know it will just end up being a repackaged and repainted in OG colors Dragonhawk like we already got for $24.99 right now...

I think more than likely they will show us what they have in store for modern era/resolute figures at joecon since this is the place where all the hardcore vintage fans go. |

From this pic, it looks like Bench Press could be Stone Cold Steve Austin.
What! What!

It's come down to that it's a new line and a new continuity. We got our "classic" products and now that it's making a shift everyone is whining to no end. The characters that show up with older code names and file names are not the same characters we all grew up with and loved. THEY'RE NEW. Or at least a new take on them. It's a new group for a new generation. Just because what Hasbro releases dictates what most fans think GI Joe is or what it should be doesn't mean it's going to ruin your whole collection. Like Mr. McConnel there. As it's been pointed out a lot of people share the same name and it's happened before in GI Joe. Besides that how many people call their figures by their file names? Bench Press is a new character, he might have the same file name, hell he might be meant to be Rock n Roll but this is a new continuity. It's a new character. If you don't like that don't buy him or just use him as only BENCH PRESS. Rock N Roll has always been one of my favorite Joes, Bench Press here, he's not Rock N Roll, he's Bench Press. Repeater another one of my favorites and I never thought we'd see a modern version of him and I'm happy. But wait! He's black now?! Oh no! My Joe universe is ruined! He's a character that never got a whole lot of page/screen time. Changing his ethnicity doesn't affect who he is as a character. It's not like when he was introduced there was a large elaborate story about his background and heritage. Same thing with Dial Tone, love the character, changing him to a female doesn't affect his character. It's not like he was a skirt chaser like Clutch was or that he was a priest in a religion that only ordained men. It comes down to us loving who the characters are, not what they look like. If you like a character based solely on how they look like then that's a shallow character and they probably weren't that interesting to begin with.
Also Footloose I'm pretty sure is sporting Airborne's head for those of you who asked. |

Here's the bullshit Hasbro is going to pull that they won't admit to: there will be a Transformer coming out named Rock&Roll, like they did for Roadblock & Payload that will keep Joe from getting those figure names used.
Why they do that is kind of lame, but it will happen to other character names. It sucks b/c you don't see them taking Transformer character names and re-using them in Joe. Nope, it's a one-way street. But really, how hard would it have been to give him a new "real name"? That being said, it does look like a cool figure, but from the head sculpt it looks like he'd make a better Big Brawler. Last edited by alcoholic ewok; 07-26-2009 at 11:09 PM.. |

I just don't like the idea of the propoganda to change so much. It is like there is so much reverse hate of what we had in the 80s that everyone is screaming "change change change it all now we will not accept anything else!" It is fine to make new things just gove him a good reason to be on the joe team, give him a good background story a new one, not make him from somone else take similar features and ideas and give him a similar name (the idea there could 100 people of the same name on a finite elite fighitng force is silly like there would be 30 Wallace Weems all in the same unit, Maybe Mike Turner would be comon but Wallace Weems? Comon.... and have the same middile inital??), just leave the old alone at this point. Don't go and tell kids this is Rock N Roll but he has a new code name and he has a similar name but alas it is not really him just make up your own mind as to who he is and you will be just fine with a Bazooka reapint with a Clutch head wielding a chainsaw...
Nothing new here cept the code name...everything else is 100% recycled. Will still get him still to see if he makes a better Sarge body then my painted one, be nice to have one that can be messed around with (good thing I got 2 of the BnB Slaughters, got an extra head ready to go!).

So Rock ‘n’ Roll wasn’t available somewhere and had to be changed. Rather than just slap a new name on the figure they changed the character completely with a new bio, specialty and codename. Unfortunately the Craig McConnel file name is an error on the card that got missed when it was produced.” Quote:
