The shipping costs probably look like a bargain compared to what you pay these days. But if Hasbro Pulse kept free shipping with a membership on a Joe subscription line, it would probably be a great deal including the other perks you get with membership like early access for SDCC.

To answer your question, something good came out of it already. Hasbro sold over 10,000 of the first figure direct from their web site within days. That proves that they have a viable distribution model that doesn't involve retail.
But now that they have proven they can sell Joe figures direct to the consumer based on the strength of the brand name alone, we should be able to convince them to make the versions of the figures we want. The best thing that can come of this line in my mind is for it to fail at retail. Then it would be economically wise to launch a direct-to-consumer line on Hasbro Pulse similar to Mattel's old MOTU Classics. We can subscribe and get a couple new retro-style carded Joe figures in faithful ARAH designs a month direct from Pulse. |

That's going way back but I think Mattel had done a few repros of the vintage MOTU guys as exclusives at TRU. Then they did the new-style line as a retail line along with a cartoon on the Cartoon Network, but that eventually failed and you had to buy some of the last Snakemen at Aldi's supermarket. So apparently 2007 was the launch of MOTUC with an SDCC exclusive King Grayskull. This was as G.I. Joe was wrapping up their "DTC" era, so maybe Mattel was copying them. Mattel either didn't think MOTU was viable at retail anymore without any media support, or they really wanted to get their own direct-to-consumer collector's web site going. I believe the brand manager for the line was a collector and fan himself so it may have been his baby that he convinced the higher-ups to try out. Apparently the MOTUC line lasted longer than the original 1980s He-Man line and produced over 150 figures. If we could get 150 classic 6" Joes that way, we'd be in great shape.
I’m surprised more folks aren’t commenting on Duke’s scar. Obviously a homage to the original Joes but in a different location. |

That Duke looks like my old pal Andrew from back in like 2016. He definitely looks like a real person not a cartoony caricature.
