You're the only one I've ever heard say anything like that. I think you have a very unpopular opinion there. By far the best-reviewed figures in the modern era are the "ultimate" versions from the last few years of the 25th-30th line. Figures like "ultimate" CC, SS, SE, etc. which closely mirrored their ARAH counterparts. And Ultimate Duke which never happened was high on many want lists.

Funny how one limited-distribution box set from a decade ago that many people never purchased appears to be being used as the template for the most important G.I. Joe line relaunch since 1982 and 2007. As opposed to using the designs that everybody remembers from the 1980s and were the foundation of the ONLY previous G.I. Joe relaunch to be successful since 1982, the 2007 25th line.

There are ways to modernize the designs, but it isn't by making them cartoony. Sideshow Toys and some of the statue companies have done a good job of adding realism to the classic designs without changing their iconic elements. That's the key though...adding REALISM. That's what Joe fans want. Joe fans are there partly because Joe is the most realistic property out there to collect in a world of fantasy and sci-fi. They don't want tooned-up Joes. The Renegades "tooned-up" 4" figures were some of the worst-selling figures of those years.

Curiosities -
1. What the heck is that thing that Roadblock is holding? 1B. Will Roadblock finally be HUGE like he is supposed to be? 2. Is that Duke (I assume) or Hawk? 3. What is going on behind Cobra Commander? Are those troopers? Anyone have a closer better pic? |
