I, I mean my son, is buried in 3.75 figs. Our Joe collection is more than complete with only a few missing characters like a good Junk and Dawg. New things to buy will be nice! Sunbow at 6 even better, make it 4 too!

I'm trying to figure out what you are trying to say here. Isn't it specifically the aging/dying-off demographic that has the nostalgia for recognizable/classic Joe designs? Kids who are, say, eight years old right now don't have nostalgia for 80's Joes, so who are we talking about? Old farts, right? So what you really seem to be saying is that this is pleasing to old farts who want classic Joes in 1:12 and it will also sell to people who will buy literally ANYTHING in 1:12 scale just because it exists. I agree on both of those points. But if the designs are in any way nostalgic, how is that not still catering to the aged demographic?
That's what they claim, but the MSRP of the new "Galaxy of Adventures" range seems to put the lie to that... Last edited by CADPAT; 01-14-2020 at 04:09 PM.. |

I'm glad that a lot of people are happy that Hasbro finally is making 6 inch joes. I would not get too excited until I finally saw them. And everyone is talking about future waves. There is no guarantee that this will go beyond the first wave. Hopefully Hasbro still has some 4 inch goodness for us crusty old 4 inch collectors

It might just be me but I get a sense of hostility for the 4 inch collectors. Not that we don't care for the 6inch joes but that we would also like there to be new figures in the 4 inch scale also.

Where I am at with this is: surprisingly excited.
When Star Wars went 6", I hated it. I bought a few but just don't love that scale for that line as I like the playsets and vehicles and having as many background characters as possible and and.... Joe, I think I would feel that way if I didn't already have basically every single character in 4" but after all of the modern lines, I can't think of more than a handful of figures that I really want in that scale at this point. (Now sure, if the choice was continue POC style redesigns in 4" versus ARAH 6", I would probably go with 4" but that ship has sailed...) Since I feel more or less fulfilled with the 4" modern Joe line, I am interested in a limited 6" collection. Will I buy everything in this scale? No, (and my army building would be basically nonexistent) but any good ARAH characters from the first few years of the original line, I will probably snap up. I'm pretty excited to have a 6" Joe display to go next to my Marvel Legends. That said, don't expect the 4" line to survive this in any meaningful way. As a long term Star Wars collector, the Black Series has all but killed the small line. Sure, there are occasionally awesome things like the sail barge but the number of all new figures is freaking tiny these days and it has been 5 years since Hasbro has released a new alien species in the small articulated line so that tells you the character depth that the line gets these days. When the cost to produce the two lines is roughly the same and 6" sells for nearly twice the price, it's easy to see where the bean counters are going to put their resources. There were some sales figures circulating a year or so ago showing that the Vintage Collection had actually outsold Black Series at several major retailers for the year but Hasbro continually pumped far more resources into 6" - because the 4" line would have to outsell the 6" at a greater than 2:1 ratio to start seeing better profits there. The idea that the market has moved away from the smaller scale isn't entirely true - they sell quite well in most cases - but why would a company like Hasbro want much lower profits when they can effectively double their money with a 6" line? (and it isn't entirely untrue, either. There is a large subset of collectors these days that are only interested in 1:12 scale toys. I'm certainly not saying that there isn't.) So not to be all doom and gloom, but while I am excited for the 6" Joes, I can certainly see worry on the horizon for 1:18 only collectors. And now that I have written a novel on the hisstank boards, I will sign off. Being stuck with suicide-wrists Duke, single-jointed-knee/scoliosis Scarlett, etc. just stings all the more if they're going to jump scales and give 1:12 fans an ARAH/Sunbow-accurate Duke, for example. There was some important, core work left to be done in 1:18 and the odds of that ever happening are now greatly reduced from what I can see. If such a collection (1:18 ultimates) is not their upcoming 1:18 release this year, then it's pretty well a guarantee that it will never happen. And that's a major bummer.

I'm super curious to see how it's gonna play out with no other media to back it. While of course I want it to sell like gangbusters, I think they made a mistake by not having anything to help support it. We'll see. |

We mean you no harm, it’s just a reaction due to how violently anti-6” most 4” only collectors (especially SW fans) are, such as calling 4” the “one true scale” and what not. |
