Yeah, almost all of those 80s cartoons are terrible looking back. The only thing that's (reasonably) "good" from that era is the 86 Transformers movie (from a current adult prospective) and that's mostly because of the "I don't give a fuck we're going to kill everyone in the first 20 mins to sell more toys" attitude and that they actually brought on real movie stars for the voices and had an actual top-notch big hit movie composer do the score (the guy from Rocky 4!)
Note: I'm not saying that movie was the best thing that ever was, but from an adult's nostalgia point of view, its got a lot more nostalgia bait than all the TV cartoons. |

I was a young adult when the cartoon aired so I never had the love for it that those who were kids at the time did. I did watch it because it was Gi Joe, but being primarily a comic fan I also disliked when it deviated from the comic. Most notably for me was the way Snake Eyes was sidelined in favor of Scarlet being with Duke and Spirit being the main antagonist for Storm Shadow.
It was aimed at kids and the toy market and was successful but for a show that appealed to both kids and adults you have to look at things like Batman The Animated Adventures or Young Justice. |

From Mr Hama himself:
Some people are saying that casting Golding 'fixes' the character of Snake-Eyes, but I disagree. I had wanted to keep him ambiguous until HASBRO introduced Storm Shadow as the only Asian character and made him a bad guy. I decided to 'fix' that by delving into his background and gradually turning him into a good guy. This is why Snake-Eyes is a white guy." He said bleep that |

I am fully on board with the new Snake Eyes movie. It is way past time to inject the brand with a new direction. It should have been done in the early 2000s. I know it will not be anything like the Hamaverse, that is what we are for. Make our own content.
You could get it, not from a major studio exactly but it is possible. You could turn to people who make fan films. They want to make the Hama versions of stories but every single fund raiser I have seen for a Joe film have failed. Not all of them are Spielberg quality but they could be darn close with the right backing and funding. The most recent venture by Paul Gaudiosio failed despite a lot of praise also. You want it? Back it. If you want a Hama universe film you can have one. You just need to make the effort. There are plenty of people out here who will make a Hama universe film but a GOOD film will cost some bucks. You have to hire a casting director, actors, a director, a PA, a screenplay writer, storyboarder, SFX, stunt coordinator, props, vehicles, CGI, make up, costume designers, lighting and sound people, craft services, Editors, Grips, all of that and more adds up fast. It is too bad we don't have a Van Der Beek level fan who would fund such a venture. Thats why they should hire somebody who can make a great joe movie instead of being like 90 percent of action movies with shaky cam, terrible action scenes and actors who can't sell the action. |
