As some of you know, or may have read, I'm good friends with one of the guys who hasbro hired to scuplt the 25th figures. He Did Storm Shadow, Copperhead various other parts and accesories.
We talk about the work all the time and I post up whatever wont get him in trouble. Anyway, yesterday, he mentioned something new to me: Hasbro hires them to sculpt these figures EXACTLY as they look from the card art and various other pics. these jobs cost $1000+ per figure sometimes. But whats up with all the rehashes then? Well, it turns out Hasbro has an internal team responsible for recreating characters out of existing parts, even after they have paid for the sculpt. thats why major blood is a zartan body, and copper head is a roadblock ripoff as are others. It sucks but I hope this answers some questions. |

Yeah, I remember them saying that in one of the Q&A's, that once a new figure is made, they look at what other figures can they make with that mold/parts.

You realize you just told Hasbro who your friend is and what level of information he's passing to you, correct?

I think most people know about this practice, they just still vent when things aren't entirely "new" or up to their expectations.

Meaning anything I post, he is ok with. But what I meant with the thread was that these figures are all getting original bodies, made, as ordered by hasbro, and then hasbro decides to just reuse existing parts if they can instead of going with the sculpt they just paid for. |

Now the question is, how can we see these sculpts?

Personally, I appreciate your insider knowledge. I think my only real concern with the any of the 25th figures we've seen thus far is poor old Zar....I mean Major Bludd (yes, that slip was intentional). Major Bludd is so obviously an egregious re-use of Zartan (right down to the chains on the wrists, leg pads, boots, etc.) that I'm honestly just baffled.
Had Hasbro not held off on Bludd for several Waves because ostensibly they wanted to get him "just right"- and that the fans would agree the wait was worthwhile-I wouldn't care as much about him. As is though, he's probably THE largest wasted potential figure Hasbro has created in the 25th line thus far. Edit- After reading back through the other entries in this Thread, I'd like to second Derek's queary regarding Bludd, and if the pics we've seen are in actuality his final form. Thanks!
