Looks like TRU is coming back. They are partnering with Candytopia for a TRU experience store called Toys R Us Adventure. It looks like a Legoland type of store where you can play and shop.
Now you are going to have to pay, just to get in. $28 for adults, $20 for kids 12-4, and free for 3 and under. Looks like it's coming to Chicago and Atlanta from October through the holidays. I'd be surprised to see the big toy companies stock there. Right now it's supposed to have, Melissa and Doug, Schleich, and other smaller toy companies. Here's an article about it: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/19/toys...periences.html I don't know if this will really impact our hobby. I may check it out if I have some free time this fall. What do you all think?

I think charging $28 adult and $20 per kid is pathetic. I hope it fails miserably.

"...Tru Kids is planning to open 10 Toys R Us stores around the U.S. in 2020. Like Toys R Us Adventure, those efforts will be supported by a partnership with another forward-thinking retail company. Through a joint venture with B8ta, the stores will offer an in-house technology platform to help brands create their own mini shops within the space...."
initially, i thought "what a bunch of crap!" then i read it again, saw this paragraph, and followed the link in said paragraph- seems if i'm reading it right, they'll have sort of a "travelling roadshow" through the holidays with admission to promote brand awareness, and then attempt some brick and mortars if all goes well. what piqued my interest was the mention of "mini shops", which sounds like a "mall" model, only exclusively for toys, and "woo back brands that felt burned by the Toys R Us bankruptcy". a Hasbro dedicated space? sounds great. I'm still no fan of store exclusives, and TRU has always been too far away from me, living in the sticks as I do, but it'd be nice to see it work. You know what i really miss though? Kaybee. picked up all four OG tmnt's there, for 3.99 ea... in 2002, no less.

Charging an admission price? Shit! Don't give other retailers that idea. I mean, I know it won't happen, but can you imagine Target, Walmart, local grocery stores, and others charging an admission to just step foot in the store? If would have to be like a museum/small theme park/toy store type deal??? I don't know.

I don't think this is a traditional retail store. Here we have this thing called "the children's museum of Richmond"
https://www.childrensmuseumofrichmond.org/ Where its not really a museum at all but its like a mini amusement park for little kids (2-10). Lots of play areas, climbing thing, sort of sciencey learning thing. I'm guessing this new TRU thing is sort of like that, a paid play area for kids that instead of being "learny" like the place here its just branded with Hasbro and Mattel (etc) items. The childrens museum has this dino pit with fake sand for kids to dig in and find "bones" but for the TRU one it might be Jurassic Park branded. |

My life has been just dandy without TRU in it, and my kid is too cool for toys, so I don't much give a shit.
