I agree with pretty much everything you have said, Mandingo. It was fun while it lasted but it seems like I'm just about ready to get off this train now. If Hasbro churned out a 7-pack or two of classic figures every year I would be more than ecstatic. And you are right, they had a lot more characters to make still (mostly 1986 - 1991). Even still, they could have gone back and "fixed" or "corrected" and improved a lot of the figures (Short-Fuze, Grunt, Cutter, Leatherneck, Breaker, Crimson Guard, Ace) that were already released in '07-'08. And you said it best in that I doubt most of these movie fans will be around in 10 years.
Hasbro, you are shooting yourself in the foot if indeed you are pretty much dropping any plans to release more "classic" figures. I will say that not having the classics released on their old artwork sucks. But I honestly would rather have "classic" Low-Light, Dial-Tone, Lifeline, Airtight, etc. released on ROC cards than not at all.

Now I am sad. I wanted a re-release of the "Dome".
AF 3: Since the Rise of Cobra merchandise is going to give us an awesome PITT playset I was wondering.....What are the chances of perhaps re-releasing the original G.I. Joe headquarters and perhaps the Cobra Terror Dome as perhaps either store exclusives or even a HasbroToyShop.com exclusive? Also one of the most iconic vehicles in the G.I. Joe line was the F-14A Skystriker, is there any chance of Hasbro perhaps re-releasing this awesome toy? H 3: The Skystriker tooling is no longer available for use. The team has investigated re-releasing the Terror Dome but due to the high costs of the set, it is unlikely.

I dunno, Motor-Viper is pretty decent, granted he needs a ton of paint apps to be ARAH, but so did the terrible Tele-Viper. Thunder is better than I expected, but Heavy Metal blew me away how close they got, and he's a frickin' kitbash. I'd buy more of the Joes like camo Scarlett or Covergirl as support staff if the camo fit in. Maybe with green repaints they'll get my money, but until then those guys are nothing but fantastic custom fodder. Expensive, but great custom fodder. If they do Footloose, Low-Light and Dial-Tone, those will be their chance to impress me and keep me collecting, as I'm sure a lot of the vintage-only fans would agree. I think Hasbro will throw in some goodies for collectors, but we'll have to buy them in multiple-packs or as vehicle drivers. At least that's how I see them doing the majority of them. |

1.) What are the criteria used to decide where to spend new tooling dollars on figures (like the new COBRA Island 7 packs) as opposed to simply bashing together a figure completely from pre-existing tooling (like the upcoming WalMart 2 packs), and what percentage (roughly) can we as fans expect to see in new tooling going forward? In general, new tooling is reserved for mainline items. These items are sold to more people and work on longer lead times. Exclusives are put together after the mainline and because of the tight schedule do not get new tooling. In the case of the 7-packs, the figures were designed to be in the mainline and were later moved to the 7-packs...hence the tons of new tooling. 2. We have received a tremendous amount of figures from the 1st 5 years of GI Joe. 1986 is the only year we're still missing a sizeable amount of characters from. Any chance of us getting Lowlight, Dialtone(the original male version), Sci-Fi, Zandar, Zarana or any others in the near future? Hasbro: As we move forward, we will continue to try and find ways to bring classic characters into the new line. Both Dialtone and Lowlight are being considered for future releases in exclusives. I know Dial-Tone and Low-Light can be done using mostly re-used parts, but new heads and some other new pieces would be nice. I just wish they'd throw in a classic character (and in their classic uniform, not the ROC BS) or two into the movie's mainline. Anyways, I guess this means most "classic" characters from this point on will be done more often-than-not like Monkeywrench (bad) than the Alley-Viper (good). I hope Hasbro does a favorite ARAH-era character ('82-'91) poll and the top 14 (7 Joes/7 Cobras) finalists are offered in some more of those awesome 7-packs!

A.D. Question 1: (From zuludelta) How much input did the toy designers and engineers have on the movie costume designs (if any)?
Hasbro Answer: The toy design team did give general input on the movie script and costumes, but in general allowed the costume designers focus on costumes and toy designers on the toys. ^No wonder why the costumes in the movie blow
