pretty much. and even when we do get the figures we want we are getting them in roc packaging. That means they will come with the roc stands and most likely the stupid rocket launchers

They caved to the desires of big box retailers for smaller packaging. Bye, bye vintage styled card art. They've obviously caved to the desires of what Hollywood thinks Joe should look like. Bye, bye to the memories of those who grew up with GI Joe and kept Kenner/Hasbro in business by purchasing those toys. Sure Hasbro is going to cop to the "they're toys for children" line. It's the easiest way out of the debate. Yeah, I agree they are toys but 95% of my customers are over the age of 16. If I remember correctly, the 25th line was started as a nod to the fans and collectors. It wasn't expected to have such a wide appeal but we all saw the popularity of the line blow up. Now, it appears, that Hasbro is shucking those that kept the line alive. They're mentality has transformed to the big box retail way of thinking....it doesn't matter what toys are on the shelf as long as toys are on the shelf. Truly sad.

Why do I continue to send money directly to Hasbro for their product? They obviously care little for what the majority of Joe collectors want.

"Will we ever see any characters that the fans actually WANT?"
-Sure, as long as you don't mind them in reactive armor or Sigm... I mean "Delta 6" suits . So, if the movie tanks, and takes the toyline (which appears to have 1% of the appeal of the 25thA line,) with it, what happens to the GIJoe brand? |

The problem is, while the movie stuff will sell well until Christmas, when all the little kids become obsessed with NEXT year's blockbuster, you won't be able to give away the movie-joes (see Wolverine, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, the Clone Wars toys, etc). The classic figures will continue to sell if Hasbro is smart enough to make them. The fans don't want Footloose, Low Light, Dial Tone, and whoever else is planned as part of the movie universe, they want the classic versions they love. It seems like I may well NOT be getting Footloose as I hoped. |

Gee i wonder if the message was clear enough about what we want (as collectors) and what hasbro wants to sell (to children and collectors)?
We seem to be at bipolar opposites at this point in time. And its frustrating for both parties. They want to sell us the latest 'cool' update of a movie style footloose (complete with springloaded weapons, strange looking uniform, and wot not) We just want a SA update of the original Footloose with new weapons, head sculpt on vintage style card. I guess we will have to wait until at least 2014.............. |

Yeah, I mean why would Hasbro try to coordinate their Joe merchandise with the $200 million dollar movie they made that will be seen by millions? Why don't they just keep catering to the few thousand hardcore Joe fans? Certainly, it makes more financial sense to stick with the smaller fanbase.
They're not going to keep GI Joe stuck in the 80s. The audience will eventually canibalize itself. If the 25th line kept going, it would only have another year or so to go, until they started up with all the lame characters and gear from the late 80s and early 90s. You can't just keep retreading the past and hope sales will rise. You have to move brands forward. The 25th line well, better than they expected. It doesn't mean it was exploding in sales. In fact, by the end, figures and vehicles were clogging pegs. Sales seemed to be dropping, as the nostalgia factor for many people started to fade. For those thinking that the 25th line could switch to exclusive status....read the answers. The 7packs have a lot of new tools, since they were intended as singles. Singles sell better than mulitpacks. They already had those figures developed and moved them into the multipacks. They're not going to develop all-new mold multipacks. Won't happen. Regarding Resolute, they're going to try to release those figures in a potential multipack next year. Probably to coincide with a DVD release. So quit crying about it. I'm not sure why he get the same old griping by people about the Q&As. We know they're not going to answer questions about specific characters. We also know they're make major announcements at the Cons. So why keep asking specific questions and get surprised when they say we'll find out at the Cons? Why do you keep sticking your finger in the socket, when you know it's going to cause you pain? Regarding a Cobra base, I think a Cobra sub that opens up to be a playset like the Pit would be cool. The sub could interact with the Flagg. And a Cobra base is always welcome. |

TNI: Inevitably, the focus is going to shift from the movie line. When that time comes, what should we expect in the spotlight; the as-of-now unreleased Resolute figures and possibly more figures based on the animated short or the "classic" 25th line? Question by reader die fighting X.
Hasbro: The focus will remain on the movie universe, even after the movie has passed. At JoeCon this year, we plan on revealing the focus for the 2010 line so we can't reveal too much right now. ^Wow. I want to cry. This is not the answer I was looking for. The only way I'll buy a 25th/Modern Era figure or vehicle in the ROC packaging will be if the figure or vehicle is in vintage colors. This is a big mistake for Hasbro I think. Collectors like the Retro packaging, especially the MOC collectors. They should have kept the Modern Era going to keep everyone happy. Looks like when I am finished buying Wave 5 vehicles and the 7 Packs, I'm collecting vintage! Quote:
Focusing on the movie line and ignoring the demand for vintage style items is like painting the figures fluorescent or creating a Sergeant Savage spin-off; it's a big mistake. Face it Hasbro, the reason we're talking 3 3/4-inch G.I. Joe today is b/c of the vintage line and it's modern counterpart.
