She was miscast and it was not her fault.
She is a fantastic actress, I watched The Lost City of Z and did not even know she was in it until I saw the list of credits. She played that role perfectly. Sommers took an actress who had never done any stunt work or gun work and stuck her in a role filled with both. She had just come off Stardust. (A Dibonaventura film) After filming she revealed that filming Rise of Cobra was an ordeal for her. They had to strap her to a gurney to get the costume on her. There was the whole "cutlets" debacle. I don't blame her for not wanting to return. Her situation at the end of Rise of Cobra left her story hanging, and it was probably one of the many threads that Chu wanted to ignore when filming Retaliation as he wanted to get as far from ROC as possible. Rachel Nichols has always said she would return but Sienna, I don't think would want to. I am sure it was a bit of sarcasm and she wanted the interviewer to focus more on her current movie American Woman opening this weekend. Plus the Baroness wasn't in the script. There was that main factor. No reason to call her agent.

She was fine. She played the role the way it was written and the way she was directed to. Blame the screenwriter and director for the shitty portrayal of the Baroness, not her.

She actually had some pretty funny lines. For a while there, every time my girls saw a character die on TV, they'd quote her "nice shoes" line and laugh like it was one of the funniest things they'd ever heard.

Well I mean, she says the whole experience was pretty much a disaster and that she was miscast for a role she probably wasn't suited for. That she wanted to try it and gave it her best shot, but pretty much everything she thought was wrong, was proven right and that there was additional stuff that she couldn't have predicted, that made it even worse. Nothing really to blame her there for, then.
I always found it amusing that Channing Tatum, who was pretty dreadful and clearly not a star in the first movie was front and center for RoC. Then Chu was going to "fix" everything in the sequel, and by that point Tatum is like the biggest star in Hollywood, a much better actor overall, and still contractually obligated to do the movie... So they just kill him off in like the first 5 minutes, instead of, you know, using him for something meaningful. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. We just need a total reboot. |

Tatum probably forced their hand on the fate of Duke in Retaliation. He did not like being in RoC and was basically extorted into being in it, according to him. So that when the sequel came around and he finally had some clout he probably told them he was available for X number of shooting days and to do with it what they could. I'm sure the studio would have loved to have him be front and center for the second film.
I think Miller's pretty average as an actress, but being pretty and having a British accent will bring you a long way in Hollywood. The idea of her not being aware of the sequel is not surprising really, she's a busy actress who probably only thinks of GI Joe when she's asked questions about it. I mean Gwyneth Paltrow just had a viral video of her finding out she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming. To us these movies are events but once an actor is established they just basically get shuttled from set to set and remember a day's lines at a time so the movies blur together unless it's an especially interesting role for them. Sienna Miller's done 17 movies since GI Joe: Rise of Cobra. She's probably spending her off time living her life not looking at movie release info for action movies. |

Eh, as I recall that wasn't the case at all. It was a decision by Chu to cut Duke out. In fact, they even did reshoots and added MORE Duke in, after early test screenings had people upset with how quickly he died.
I'm guessing had he been given a meatier part, he probably would have been fine with it. Either way, I just always found it amusing that we got Tatum when he was useless and then when he was actually of some use (and honestly did seem to be a better actor by then) we get him for a hackneyed cameo. |

The Joe movies were entertaining as a casual watch but still bad.
Miller was lazily wrote out of the 2nd movie, probably all their contracts were ignored not just Tatum's. She had a Kate Beckinsale look from Underworld series, but all the characters were weirded out for maybe Snake-Eyes and Storm, they kinda always kept them intact for both movies to some degree. Kate probably would've made a good Baroness back then, she was pretty much already in Van Helsing that Sommers directed, lol. |

A lot of folks didn't bother to see either G.I. Joe movie because there was no buzz for them so it's believable.
