One day... IDW will lose the license, this downward spiral will falter off and GI Joe will be good again.
Personal opinion. |

As some one who has been reading the comic monthly since 1987 (all of the companies and continuities) we're in one of the best places GiJoe in the comics has ever been, right now.

Ummm...what? As someone who has been reading Joe comics, all continuities, although not since 87, more like 91, this to me is one of, if not the worst...ever. But- if you like it, then I'm glad someone is enjoying it. I'd rather it be there than not be.

G.I.JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO # 23
postbox: the pit! page U.S. POSTAL SERVICE STATEMENT OF OWNERSHIP,MANAGEMENT AND CIRCULATION (REQUIRED BY 39 U.S.C.3685) 10 EXTENT AND NATURE OF CIRCULATION A TOTAL # OF COPIES PRINTED (354,335) yearly. But you know selling around 6,000 copies a month is just as good. Don't get me started on the story.

As someone who prays it never ends completely, the one thing I can say is that each incarnation (Marvel / DDP / IDW) has had more enjoyable stuff than not. We may never see the kind of brute truth Hama wrote about in the originals when we were kids, offered to a demographic that young. Hama was on the top of his game more than not. DDP - minus the body-switching ninja nonsense that line ran for years giving us great stories that still hold up and created some great original characters. The Branden Jerwa And Josh Blaylock arcs were terrific, and the whole thing culminating in WWIII was awesome; easily the best Zartan version ever, oh also Kamakura anyone? Then came IDW and Mike Costa made Chuckles a household name and proved that our GI Joe Comics could grow up with us like video games did. What he did with Chuckles and Cobra Command was ridiculously interesting. The Cobra Book never faltered. GI Joe Origins whether written by Hama or David Lapham was nail-bitingly good, and while Chuck Dixon wrote mediocre stuff in the main title more than not, the artwork was beautiful, and eventually Hama would reignite with 155.5. Yes we could do without Blue Ninjas and Brainwave scanners, but when Hama does avoid that stuff, he’s still stellar. Whenever Hama wakes up in the morning and goes, “hmmm, I feel like writing a straight up pure military story,” he’s still creme de la creme. So wherever the license goes next, history tells us, it should be more good than bad. #JustSaying

I think the comic has been mostly underwhelming since issue 200. The giant robot story that started then and ended with the death of Snake Eyes was the beginning of the end. Then instead of telling a good story about GI Joe without Snake Eyes, he was replaced immediately. Lately the comic feels like GI Joe Starring DAWN MORENO as Snake Eyes. I keep hoping it will get better.

I have been reading ARAH since 1982, and am enjoying the current run.
