Hasbro really does need its own independent online presence. I’m not saying they should cut out the middle man, however having an actual online store gives them some flexibility they wouldn’t otherwise have. They can put out pre orders or polls to gage the population of figures. They could physically buy back figures from stores and have a place to more those figures. Honestly, with as much as this community stands behind the Joe product, they wouldn’t even have to pay someone to go get the peg warmers and ship them back. We would all most likely do it for free, just to get new waves on the shelves...lol
Hahaha. I remember doing a form of that during the 30th/Ren days. I'd take the peg warmers from one Target, and return them at a Target about 30 miles away. I know some may think that is a dick move, but it worked. There would be new figures on the orgs about a week later. I was able to get a low light that way.

I wonder what they have planned for GIJoe. What with the news, well rumored news, we'll know for certain tomorrow, that Hasbro is going to release a retro Kenner style Star Wars Line. Rumors say they're going to pick up where Kenner left off in 1985. It sounds like Hasbro wants to tap into the market Super7 is catering to.
That news, plus these Wal-Mart G1 Transformers exclusives that have been coming out last year and this year, makes me wonder if we'll see some form of old school Joe reissues. A shame TRU isn't around, they would probably carry the line. Last edited by txbart; 02-17-2019 at 08:39 AM.. |

I have a question about MOTU. What is the most popular MOTU line right now? Is it the super 7 line that look like the 5" vintage figures or is it the Matty collector figures with the newer scupts? Does Matty collector provide these figures anymore or did another company take up these style figures? I just want to know if there is a demand for Matty collector style figures anymore, or is the greater demand for the 5" vintage style figures? One could correlate this with GI Joe. Will Hasbro focus on continuing ME figures (which would include 6" ME style figures) or will they relaunch o-ring figures like super 7 did with MOTU?

I hope there's no interest in a "retro" style of 3.75''/4'' Joe figure line with horrible POA and deliberately terrible sculpts. That would just be insulting. Go back to O-ring. Go back to New Sculpt, even with the T-crotch. That's fine. Heck, even 5POA figures with top-of-the-line sculpts could be adequate. But don't dumb it down all the way to a Super7/Funko/Reaction-type of figure.
EDIT: Oh, and was anything said of Marvel 3.75''/4'' figures? It sounds like the brand will be dead as of this year, but I hope I might have missed some news or hints that were dropped. It's been very frustrating seeing the 6'' line get more and more love and market presence, and for the 4'' line to gradually waste away from disinterest from corporate.

They're pumping out tons of those vintage-style figures that's for sure. Saw an endcap of the weird DC ones that Funko is making at Target, with the playset prominently displayed. They're relatively low MSRP so I guess they're appealing to casual buyers? I don't get it personally. Vintage MOTU were my least favorite style of figure back when I was a kid. AFAIK Mattel isn't making Masters of the Universe stuff, at least not the collector-oriented stuff. If the movie actually begins production this year I expect they'll do the figures for that next year. But it's probably too small potatoes for them until then. Which is probably the issue Hasbro has with GI Joe. The thing about vintage MOTU vs vintage GI Joe is that you can share molds much easier with MOTU. Most of those o-ring Joes' molds are gone so I've heard, so they'd have to spend a lot of money retooling them all. If you look at how Hasbro has launched their Power Rangers line I can see what their strategy might be for GI Joe. When the next movie comes out they can push out stuff based on that and work in some collector-oriented stuff in a subline. When it comes to the scale the trend seems to be 6" but who knows. Star Wars 3.75" is becoming increasingly collector-oriented, and they're putting out some new vintage Kenner-style reissues as well. |
