Depends if the new senior brand manager (yet tbd) is supposed to shepherd through predetermined toys/scale, or if he/she is supposed to lead the think tank.

Brian Savage may be a lot of things but Clueless isn't one of them. He knows exactly what he is doing. He made a fortune off a brand that "doesn't sell". Him telling you buy his stuff because the line is dead and you will never get another chance will just further his sales. I am sure he could careless what Hasbro's next plan of action is for Gi joe.

I agree with Skinny. Hopefully we hear something good from the NY toyfair.

What worries me is that Hasbro just let go of three guys that they know have a lot of love for the brand and now they are looking someone to lead it. Which if I had to guess (pure speculation here) is because they want someone with no previous ties to it to lead it into a new direction.

I've given a lot of thought about the Fortnite phenomenon. I think its the closest that we've come to a comparable 'craze' to ARAH in the 80's. What if Hasbro sold GIJoe figures that came with a code to unlock that character's skin in Fortnite? Buy the figure - unlock the skin. Can't get the exclusive skin any other way. Sure, they'd have to partner with Epic Games... but it could work - imo.

Imagine buying Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Roadblock, Destro, or Major Bludd - then being able to play their character in a game like Fortnite. I think it would hook the kids in...

Thank you. I was just going to make this comment but figured someone else had made it first. Honestly they let Derryl and his guys go just a few months ago, if that? How insulting. It really telegraphs that Hasrbo is in disarray.

Toys-to-life is dead. It was just a fad. They'd be better off just doing an in-game promotional event when the next movie comes out.

Nah, as much as I hate to say this, G.I. Joe wasn't gaining any traction with today's kids no matter what DDP and Weber tried...although I don't think Weber was given a chance to do much beyond keeping the brand alive at retail by creating the TRU 50th stuff and we have no idea if DDP &/or Weber had ideas that would've worked and they weren't allowed to roll them out. In the end, it was time for a change and new perspectives. Catering to a dwindling collector base ain't the recipe for long-term brand growth. The firing of DDP, who was beholden in many ways to the old views of action figures, really signaled that Hasbro is rethinking the traditional action figure itself and trying to figure out how to make it relevant for today's kiddos.

I think...or maybe it is just a big clusterfuck and their firings were more about shedding tenured salaries. *shrug*

I'm not sure what you mean by "hybrid of o ring, modern design and Fortnite sculpt," but I think o-ring designed figures is a very nuanced genre for collectors.

Given BFS and Marauder's success, taking into consideration the already established 25th to 50th Anniversary style of figures, I would think that Hasbro would continue somewhat with the design they already have.

I know that there was a backlash from Star Wars fans when Hasbro changed from super-articulated Star Wars action figures to 5-points of articulation, like the classic Kenner figures. Heck, even AOTC "gimmick" figures like Anakin with a sliding Light Saber blade, like the vintage Luke, Ben, & Darth Vader figures, didn't really go over with the majority of fans.

I think o-ring designs are a lot like the 12" action figures. They are great for nostalgia, but there's really not enough of a market to justify production.

Jason

Yeah, no.

1. No trolling, flaming or Racial Insensitivity.
Any form of personal insult is a no-no. As a basic rule of thumb: if you think that what you are about to post is insulting, don't post it. No posting with the intent of starting "Drama". If you feel the need to start trouble, go elsewhere.

Go see the Transformers designs that most TF fans remembered in the 80s.
but the classic line ran til 1994. So the person they are looking for needs to incorporate all the years not just the select basic boring years of 82-87. Some of us like aliens, street fighter, ninjas, crazy cobra like frag vipers, heat vipers.
just b/c one fan demands it be 82 to 87 means Hasbro should do it or think everyone else will like the movie just b/c one fan replies with the same answer hoping it sticks.
