Different continuities weren't anything new with DDP, and niether will it be with IDW, Marvel, or whichever company ends up with the license.
Marvel has the Ultimates for different continuity, and their regular universe is 616. DC has the multiverse. DDP had Joe reloaded, which was a complete reimagining, and America Elite, which continued the marvel era stuff from previous series. |

I don't see that happening at all. Best case scenerio, the new publisher picks up where WWIII leaves off. Worst case scenerio, the DDP/Image stories never happened, what a waste. Dr. Biggles-Jones was never really a Cobra agent, yet she was in prison? I don't think they even read those issues all the way through. I think the best scenarios would involve: A. A total reboot of the universe written by Larry. (Vietnam was a LONG time ago, kids.) or B. Larry picks up and runs from where HE left off. This is what I really want. Some may say that it's premature of me to consider Larry involved with the new comics. I'm pretty sure the whole POINT of the shakeup is to get Larry back at the helm.

Man....I was a huge fan of the Marvel run and I liked some of the stuff with DDP but just imagine if Joe goes back to Marvel. We all know how Joe Quesada feels about Redheads.......he would probably have Mephisto show up and offer Snake-Eyes his voice back in return for his love of Scarlett.
Like I said as long as whoever gets it doesn't have SS go back to Cobra and continue the Marvel, DDP continuity I'll be happy. |

(Avengers: the Initiative is almost G.I.Joe with super heroes as it is...)
and look at the treatment they've given their new licensed titles: Peter David and Jae Lee on Dark Tower and Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev on Halo. <edit>Additionally, world war hulk, while generally well received, went on far too long for my taste. It was literally issue after issue of "the hulk victimizes all your favorite heroes". It could have been done in two.

I also found this interesting tidbit:
JR: How do you like Kamakura? LH: Nicely turned-out character. You know that Josh Blaylock wrote the file card, right? JR: I did not know that. I must ask this also, have you gotten a chance to read G.I. Joe Reloaded? And what are your thoughts on that? LH: Haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I have it, though. I haven’t actually read a comic in a year or two! JR: Would you consider penning another Joe story if you were offered one? LH: Depends on what kind of story. JR: What kind of story would you like to do? LH: I would pick up the story of Sean Collins, son of Wade Collins. I would pick up his story in Iraq or Afghanistan in the present. He's been in the army for ten years and he's a hard-stripe E-7 in Special Forces.

Mike O'Sullivan: His answer actually surprised me when I read it, as he was offered three projects -- one he didn't have time to do, one he had "no interest" in doing, and STORM SHADOW was the one that he wanted. The one he had no time for was removed from the schedule, as there was no reason to do it without his participation, and the other one we went in a different creative direction... Not surprising that he doesn't remember, though... the man is constantly getting projects thrown at him... There's no way he could remember every email that comes at him. I'm just glad that he wanted to work on Joe in any capacity!-------------------------------------- It seems to me that nowhere does it mention Larry being given the flagship title. Even if he was offered it, I doubt he'd take it considering how much has been changed about the characters and their interactions. No, Larry has said before that he would ONLY write G.I. Joe if he was given free reign. And frankly I don't blame him. It's possible that of the "three choices" Larry was given, they seemed so inadequate he simply decided they weren't choices at all.

I will hope that IDW get continuity from the DD if not hope they make a cool story and keep important characters as Kamakura.
and I just hope someday the toyline, the comic book, the cartoon and the movie get the same universe |

I've worked with Josh on many occasions and he's a stand-up guy, this is really too bad. I'm glad that they're going to finish the WW3 story-arc, though.
-Trust me, you guys do NOT want Marvel to get this license. They could give a crap less about it. Yes, they promoted the heck out of Dark Tower, but look at Halo. Only the first 2 issues have come out and that started when, last summer I think! If Marvel gets it, Joe will be published for a year tops, and then when the heat from the movie cools down, they'll cancel it and we'll be left with nothing. -IDW does a GREAT job with their licensed stuff. They know that's what sells the most for them. If it goes to IDW, I can totally see them doing both a "classic" Joe comic continuing the Marvel and/or DD continuity and a comic that mirrors the movie. Plus, I'm sure they'd carry on the Special Missions one-shots. Hopefully whoever gets the license gets the rights to reprint the Marvel run in trade paperback form.
