That is John Royle's style. The covers are supposed to be retro like they were from the original series. They are one of the best things about this series.

Every page I was like, "this guy is on some serious acid!" Very psychedelic. Personally I did not like it very much, but I did appreciate how he tried to put a unique spin on characters and concepts from the Joe lore. You can tell the author at least cared and was trying to do something interesting, which I respect, even if I did not like the final product.
