Actually... Larry and I discussed this plan at length before we green-lit it. I wanted to make sure he was on board and good with another writer chipping in -- as well as bringing in an "outside" character to the ARAH mix -- before we ever presented it to Hasbro for their approval.
He was. And he's been an awesome help to both Ryan Ferrier and me throughout the process, offering plenty of solid (and crucial) notes for the backup story. Larry may not have created Helix, but the ARAH version of her will definitely be new and different than what's come before... re-designed with Larry's unique character perspective as well as Ryan's. And for you longtime, hardcore ARAH fans, I'm gonna throw out an exclusive spoiler on Hisstank. The original Snake Eyes plays a major role in the origin story. Don't believe me? Then check out Kenneth Loh's very cool early layouts! Talk soon... Tom W. |

He's a professional I wouldn't expect anything less from him.

I predicted awhile back that this project would either be a Special Missions ongoing or a Dawn miniseries, so it's nice to see one of those was true. I thought Ryan Ferrier did a great job on G.I. Joe Vs. Six Million Dollar Man. It felt like an ARAH story, and having S.L. Gallant on art didn't hurt either since he had been synonymous with ARAH for a long while. I felt like that story could have been just as in-canon as the TMNT/Ghostbuster comics were to the TMNT comic. It was just that on the mark for me. So good pick to bring Ferrier into the ARAH fold.

Silent Option is a pass for me I have zero interesting in continuing with the Snake Eyes is in my head story. But Dawn in a regular mini series for the people who enjoy the character is fine that way I don't have to read that Bullshit, unfortunately Dawn/Snake Eyes combo will be in both books.

"Silent Option" doesn't mean another silent issue, I hope? (fingers crossed) Not complaining; it's just that none have had the impact of the first silent issue.

LOVE seeing Bombstrike on more covers. Really glad she’s one of the later joes that has been given a chance to shine in the ARAH comic.
Also glad that Helix is joining the ARAH continuity. I love what’s been done with her so far and can’t wait to see what they’ve got planned. I’m also enjoying the Dawn Moreno storyline so I’m not unhappy that she’s front and center in this new series. |

Tom, just curious: why go with a new #1 instead of simply bumping ARAH to bi-monthly during this run? It’s not the end of the world, and I WILL buy/read it. I just prefer continuity when it comes to Hama’s work, which may stop me from buying the TPB (unless it’s numbered like the others are (#22 or #23?)...
Thoughts? Our hope is that if this works as well as we hope (and believe) it will -- cool story, great fan support, exciting creative teams -- we'll be able to do more SILENT OPTION stories. My goal is to have two ARAH books on shelves... the main book and a second SILENT OPTION series that will feature a rotating cast of characters operating off the books and in the black. Doesn't mean SPECIAL MISSIONS is going away (I've been very happy with this recent arc and want to do more down the line for sure) but S.O. will have a different tonality to it... and it will give us an opportunity to explore different artists and guest writers, all working from (and inspired by) Larry's long-running continuity. And make no mistake -- SILENT OPTION is part of the current ARAH continuity/canon. So... that's the Big Picture plan. For now, our focus is to get this first mini-series done and into all our awesome fans' hands to let them decide if S.O. is as cool, new, and special as we believe it is. And for the record -- the press labeling this as a "Dawn" story is misleading. Dawn Moreno does have an important role in this tale, but it's very much a team book... a covert team led by Bombstrike, not Dawn. This will be Dawn's first official mission as a JOE, so it's not the time for her to be in charge yet -- not by a long shot. Dawn's going to have to earn her stripes like everyone else has. Talk soon... Tom W. |

Am I the only one who thinks Helix looks like Lauren Cohan on that variant cover?
