Was ARAH GI Joe? Not according to the people who grew up on the 12" "Barbie-esque" generic military figure toy concept. Until Hasbro can DEFINE what kind of brand and concept they want GI Joe to be, we'll probably never see the brand attain any sort of traction in the market because it won't be able to distinguish itself against more defined brand concepts. Until that is done, we can debate until blue in the face.

If Power Rangers was to be put in a Hasbro Cinematic Universe, do you guys think they would make Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue apart of G.I. Joe?

Until that is done, we can debate until blue in the face. So, if you're a 12" Joe purist, you couldn't really complain that a movie doesn't portray 12" Joes properly, because...how could it? Unless it's a Nam-era movie with no character names and with every possible combination of mission set parts, then there will always be a guy who sees it and doesn't recognize it as what they played with back then. It's not even in the same ballpark as the 3-3/4" line. I think that's one aspect that we could objectively exclude as not relevant to a debate about making a "real" Joe movie. It would be like complaining that the original 2014 Lego movie wasn't "real" Lego. How could anyone argue that? Legos mostly aren't named characters and they don't have recognizable personalities and story lines predetermined for them. A movie with Legos in it can go wherever it wants without violating the perception of what Legos are. Lego can be anything. I think it's basically the same with 12" Joes, except they would be pretty confined in terms of their era in time. So really, I guess I'm saying you could call Platoon a GI Joe movie if we're talking about 12" Joes. Nearly anything could qualify as long as it was Vienam-era soldiers...though technically nobody should have a name. Setting aside 12" Joes, as I believe we should, that would just leave the debate about "real" Joe as being one of ARAH vs. everything else that came after, because ARAH was the start of the actual main characters who would be portrayed in the movie. So my first premise is this: There can't really be a movie that is recognizable as GI Joe without there being some named GI Joe character(s) in it. The 12" line did not have any such characters, so it can be removed from the movie debate. Fair enough? If we can agree on that as a piece of objective reasoning then we can take the next step without worrying that we have let our passions influence us. If there are objective arguments against this then let's hash those out. Maybe we can't even take a single step?

But what, exactly, IS GI Joe? That remains a question nobody has really been able to answer...because unlike many brands...GI Joe has changed and evolved so much that what it even MEANS to be GI Joe can be endlessly debated.

From the Comics to the Cartoons to the Movies. |

Comicbook.com not a great source, but supposedly Paramount is trying to get The Rock back for the next GI Joe and has made an offer to him. Claiming title is Ever Vigilant also. So are they gonna do a soft reboot perhaps? Summary they give is Roadblock is trying to build a new team of Joes to fight terrorists. So perhaps they are just gonna make it a sequel and a reboot at the same time by basically starting fresh

Staying true to source material is not needed to make a successful or good movie. It's been done many times before, most sci fi and comic adaptations take tons of liberties with the material and it's worked. GI Joe didn't fail because it wasn't true to it's source material, it was just bad movies. |

Interesting. It still says it will be a reboot which is great, but still wants the Rock to reprise his Roadblock role, which may confuse people to think it's a sequel. Either way, the star power of the Rock is a good thing to keep around for a reboot.

EXCLUSIVE: Character Details About The G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant - That Hashtag Show I know this is not final, but come on. Do we really need this many spoilers before it's even made? I only want to see the Rock back in GI Joe, if he has a prosthetic leg, and can jump from one skyscraper to another. Oh wait. I saw that already.
