It is a Snake Eyes movie but with the popularity and the runaway sales of the recent comic, it makes me wonder why Hasbro/Paramount would be looking at a Disney writer who has written for, Belle of beauty and the beast, Tinker Bell, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, a female alien (Terra), I mean yes he has written other things but those sure are a lot of female lead characters...
They didn't say it was classic Snake Eyes at all, THR might just be assuming that. I am just saying it is a possibility with all the talk of reboots etc, that this is a Dawn Moreno movie. That would solve the problem of no dialogue as well. If it is a classic Snake Eyes movie, I am all for Ray Park to return. I guess we shall just have to wait and see (as Zartan said, he didn't want to be the President who did that.)

FWIW, I’d submit that character-centric movies tend to work out better than large ensembles. Not always, but often enough. Maybe they could try letting each character have an individual ‘Special Mission’ movie and then let the actual ‘GI Joe’ movie be the big team-up film.

The first movie could focus on Snake Eyes, Stalker, and Storm Shadow and their military service together, Snake Eyes joining the Arashikage family, etc. Firefly and Zartan could also appear. The next movie would follow Duke, Flint, and Roadblock as part of a unit that goes up against Destro and his Iron Grenadiers. Any number of other Joes could also appear. Rock n Roll, Spirit, Wild Bill, Breaker, etc. Another movie could be an espionage thriller with Lady Jaye infiltrating Extensive Enterprises. Obviously Tomax and Xamot are the villains. Hawk would be the Nick Fury of the franchise, recruiting members to the Joes as the movies progress. Cobra Commander would be operating behind the scenes but wouldn't fully appear until the team up movie. |

It should be a Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow origin movie, starting with their time in Vietnam, ending with the death of the Hard Master. The B plot could be CC’s origin and the founding of Cobra.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe approach to G.I. Joe? I kind of like that idea.

Lol. At least it makes less sense than making GI Joe into a live action Netflix show :-)

Hasbro has proven over and over they care nothing about the existing fanbase or the continuity of the line. With the success of the Wonder Woman movie, Captain Marvel coming out, and rumored Black Widow movie I would more surprised if SE were male.

I think a single-star character movie is a good idea. Save the story about the group for comics or a TV series. In a movie, having too many characters can make things unfocused.
I think it's a bad idea to use girl-Snake-Eyes, just for familiarity's sake, but I'd still give it a chance. I also think the original Nam story is a bad idea, because you want to modernize the story for future entries. Of course the fanboy in me would be ecstatic if they did Nam, but I don't think it's wise when you're trying to breathe life into a dying franchise. Joe could do almost anything and I'd still watch it though. But this is the first thing to slightly resemble good news in any way about a new movie. I do hope no matter what else they do, that they make SE a soldier before a ninja. He doesn't have to serve in a real war, I understand that real-life American military activity is a touchy subject nowadays. But I think SE's relationship with his country and it's military is important to his character, in particular why he doesn't "ride-or-die" with the Arashikage when shit hits the fan. |
