I think time and the continued absence of any new G.I. Joe toys or media are starting to make people look back on RoC more kindly than they ought; that whole thing played out like Paramount was trying to retread Team America: World Police without ever realising that that film was a satire.

I rather he didn’t return, because as much as he has the physical mass to play Roadblock, I don’t want to see another G.I. Joe film where Roadblock is at the front and centre of everything. Retaliation felt very forced in that way, putting Johnson in a leadership role like that.

A leaner approach to the film itself might be advisable (look at what Deadpool was able to achieve, both onscreen and terms of earnings, on a budget of just under $60 million). If G.I. Joe is going to survive as a property, I think Hasbro might have to accept that it’s not really something that, at least in the current cultural environment, they can tap for mass, worldwide appeal like the Michael Bay Transformers movies (it might be instructive here to observe how Disney is determinedly running the Star Wars franchise into the ground in the name of “increased global appeal”). Hasbro might have to content itself with catering to a smaller customer base, rather than trying to water down the core concepts of the brand in an Sisyphean effort to chase global returns.

I completely agree with you. I watched ROC as a kid with not much knowledge about the franchise at the time and loved it! I think the mindset you watch the movie in really affects your opinion of it. Also did anyone forget Star Brigade? They had giant robot suits too and I don't know if they were hated at the time but GI Joe has always had a bit of sci-fi. Also that "Life like hair part" was great cause my dad grew up with those!
Which is basically what the Delta suits were a rip off of. |

I am not saying the suits were alike/based off each other, I am saying the whole SCI-FI aspect of GI Joe was around for a while.

Dont blame Star Wars on Disney, that falls on the hands of Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy. |

I agree. Have you seen how Marvel legends is cutting back on gear? I was lucky to get the Juggernaut wave Dead Pool at retail and man, he came packed out with weapons! There are some new Dead Pool figures coming out later this year, and from what I've seen they will only have swords and/or pistols. Same with Punisher, he used to come with a lot but the new "Vintage Style" one only comes with a Bazooka.

Man, in my opinion (and Mark Hamill's) Rian Johnson messed up Star Wars!

Check out the Fortnite Skins gallery - they have lots of Joe-inspired characters.

I found it oddly mean-spirited, in addition to displaying an aggressive disregard for the lore for no discernible reason (how does it improve the story to make Duke an officer and Baroness his brainwashed ex, or Snake Eyes a perfectly normal-looking man sworn to silence, rather than a tragically-disfigured mute, to cite just a few examples), and just generally being loud, dumb and derivative.

I had a friend who had a similar reaction to Ironhide getting killed off in Dark of the Moon or whichever instalment it was. I also seem to recall that more than a few female fans were pissed off that Ryan Hansen from Veronica Mars, despite ostensibly being cast as Grunt, amounted to little more than a blink-and-you-miss-him extra, in effect. I'm rather fond of many of them myself, but I really love the "20 minutes into the future" aesthetic of "Pursuit of Cobra" that Massive Black cooked up, which felt like a perfect updating of the original near-future design ethos that characterised the vintage RAH line, at least to start with. There are so many of those concepts that I wish we could still get figures of... Quote:

One of the new Deadpools has two swords as his only accessories (not counting the new harness and leg-bandolier), but the other has two swords, a rifle, pistol and the head of the Sasquatch Build-a-Figure. The accompanying version of Cable has three very large guns, a tactical harness on steroids and Sasquatch's leg (in addition to being almost as large as some BaFs himself). Wave-mate Deathlok appears to use entirely new tooling and features a backpack, pistol, belt-fed mini-gun and the usual BaF part. The Walgreens-exclusive Punisher that came out slightly ahead of the Toy Biz tribute version had an additional shoulder harness, a rocket launcher, shotgun and an M-60. I think if any line is suffering from reduced accessories right now, it's Star Wars's "Black Series."
