If they can reboot spider man twice, why not joe? I still want to see 80’s joe on the screen. All out no apologies love it or hate it 80’s joe. Could be the next epic Flash Gordon 1980.

On paper, he looks like another low-rent director, no different than Stephen Sommers. Jon Chu was below low-rent, he was more in the vein of sleeping in your van and showering at the YMCA. So I guess it's a step up from the last director.
I would've preferred a more imaginative and/or pedigreed choice. Someone who is known for something other than making B-grade genre and action pictures with mediocre reviews and middling box office. Check out the long string of splats on his Rotten Tomatoes resume: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/dj_caruso/ The more I look into this guy's career, the more I feel the movie is doomed before it starts. This director actually named a movie he directed "The Disappointments Room." No one with half a brain puts the word "disappointment" in the title of their movie. A movie is a product like anything else. Would you produce a soft drink called "The Disappointment Cola?" Picking him just cements the fact that Hollywood is treating G.I. Joe as a complete loser of a franchise, not taking it or its potential seriously at all. They're treating it like disposable trash to be made cheaply and turn a quick buck. I can just hear the execs snickering at the name under their breath and thinking it's a joke. How about picking a director who can give us the perception that he's making the movie because he's enthusiastic about the material, not because his career has hit a dead end and he's run out of all other options? Going to be honest, haven't seen any of Caruso's movies.
I would rather see Donald Belisario, Christopher Chulack, Patty Jenkins, or yes Bay. Bay knows military, as does Belisario but he is focused on TV. Jenkins (Wonder Woman) knows how to tell a story. Chulack has directed SEAL Team on CBS. Chu screwed up by not being more adamant about things and just following orders. If he had done GIJOE like he did his LXD stuff it would have been super. Instead we got a film which was better than ROC by far in tone, but still lacked execution. We need a director with more conviction who will not just follow the orders of the producers and the studio and can tell a story. Wouldn't hurt if they knew the story to begin with unlike Sommers and Di Bonaventura who were clueless. Even if this is not an ARAH movie and a complete total reboot from scratch I would pick those people first.

The story needs to be bold and simple and capture the value of diversity in uniforms that set their own tone. It's all about action and war let it be what it is. Red and Blue blasters would be awesome! Knock that shit out of the park with what put it on the map.
