I've said before that TRU will have a huge impact on the future of GI Joe. For years they've been the only outlet to still have faith in the brand. TRU brought them back after the first hiatus. They became the exclusive store for Spy Troops, Joe vs Cobra and the DTC line. When the movie figures killed the market everywhere else, TRU was willing to keep offering GI Joe right up through the 50th Anniversary line.
Where does Joe go from here?

I really don't understand the mindset of the guys here and on ToyArk (mostly ToyArk) who made their little "lol good riddance TRU" posts, without understanding how horribly TRU's passing would hit the toy industry as a whole. Maybe now they'll pull their heads out of their asses and realize how bad things are going to be.
I'm especially worried about NECA. This will hit them way hard. |

Sorry, but GI Joe can't save Hasbro.

I very much echo that sentiment , another couple of examples are LEGO who as well as having their products in many shops , now have their own dedicated shops which are excellent , and Disney who seem to be doing a roaring trade from their own shops , maybe Hasbro should have tied up the movie side of things with Disney , the way that star wars seems to be flourishing would be a good example. physical Hasbro toyshops would be great , they could really promote and push their products out there and very much endear both children and us old farts to their products.

Absolutely true. Hasbro had relied on BBTS, Amazon, TRU just to name a few for their internet presence. Just with their own brick and mortar stores, Hasbro really needs to flex their muscles and take control of their own destiny. With so many empty stores at the mall these days, a strong physical presence could really turn the tide for Hasbro.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I think we're all looking at the bigger picture here and that there are going to have to be some big changes for Hasbro and how they are going to get product - any product - into consumers' hands.

I agree. Even if Hasbro went all in with Haslab and started thier own FSS it would make very little difference in terms of what they are losing with TRU shutting it's doors. Again. If Hasbro took that big a hit already one can only imagine how a full year is gonna play out. The entire toy industry is about to undergo a drastic change in the next 12months. I think even with KB doing thier pop up stores for the holiday season sales won't even scratch the surface of the over all hit the industry is going to take. I think the major lines will obviously survive brands like SW TF will continue but I would bet the production numbers drop which will cause prices to go up while brands like Joe kind of get over looked while Hasbro clamours to find its next identity. I guess we will all find out in time but I don't think this is going to play out very well for Joe fans.

Probably not without a new identity. I think Hasbro Lacks a little vision here. I am not a fool to believe GIJoe will do anything to save the brand, but I think they need to pump out their online presence. Kids don't play with toys hardly anymore, past 8 years old, but they watch a Shit ton of Youtube. Hasbro needs a youtube channel with some content. Maybe daily. Not this assortment of commercials:
