Went to my local TRU today and action figures were still 10% off. I did find a Legends Vision/Scarlett Witch two pack which I picked up. Sad that is probably the last TRU exclusive item. I also found some of the 6" Stanger Things figures. The cashier used marked the UPCs up with black marker. Wonder when they'll do the next stage of markdowns

We have multiple TRUs near us. Some are up to "60%" clearance. Some are still at "30%". As noted above only random junk has any real discount. That said, when I've gone there are people packing carts with stuff that's ten percent off like they'll never see a toy again. The real kicker on this is that some of the TRUs have actually raised their prices before taking the discount. So the people aren't even getting the whole ten percent.

Anyways, yeah there's a lot of "UP to 30% banners" liquidation banners popping up. The wording means, discounts range from 0-30%, meaning by logic, all the good stuff is barely discounted to 5-10%. The 30% off stuff is some pink paper stationary in the baby section.
Have you met them? How do you know they're not nice? An ATM? You mean they actually asked to work for a salary instead of for free unlike all those nice people like yourself, who I assume based on your verbiage here must work for free out of the kindness of your heart rather than asking for a salary? |

First, an article from a long time toy industry insider (I don't think it's been posted yet):
“I Don’t Wanna Go Into Liquidation, I’m A Toys R Us Kid” I guess it's possible that some of TRU's inventory may end up at Ross, Tuesday Morning, Ollies, etc. I know from talking to people at the local store that as of last week they're still receiving trucks, though it's mostly TRU brand merchandise coming in. Most likely whatever is in their warehouse/ their pipeline is theirs, anything en route to them might be diverted to some other retailer. One has to think that many companies (Hasbro? Mattel?) have or will stop sending product to a chain that most likely won't be around this summer. I'm sad that TRU is really going away. That there's one less place to buy toys. One less link to "the old days" of taking kids to the toy store to pick something out. The same store YOU went to as a kid to buy toys. I'm mad that it was borderline sabotage for the sake of a few people making millions. Because of their greed, 33,000 people will be out of work. I've been to my local TRU more times in the last week or two than in the previous couple months. I observed that the place seemed MUCH more crowded than before. In talking with a cashier, they said the place has been busier since the news broke and sales are great. When I was there yesterday, they had line controls like it was Christmas. The discount of 10% will drop in a week or two to 20%. They're selling a lot of stuff now, but they still need everything to be gone by May. And they didn't mark my barcode, but I was told that's just some cashiers at some stores. They did tell me (and had signs everywhere) "no returns." Funny thing was, I asked if I could use my rewards ($5 barcode) and they (including a supervisor) said yes. Got to the register, they said no. I say "I talked to so-and-so and they said yes". They scan my Rewards card, it goes through. They try the barcode, it says "expired." The barcode says "valid through 5/16/2018." This is why some people are not sad to see TRU go, pulling BS like this with repeat customers. I accumulated the points and converted them to the cash value or barcode to use. No dice. They are not honoring anything. Sure there are a LOT of reasons why TRU was hurting. "Death by a thousand cuts", one might say. However many of those reasons can be traced back to; they had no money. Sales were down and any money they were making was going to pay debts (and over paid executives). Supply and demand only works when you have the money to buy the supply in the first place. By some accounts, TRU hasn't paid some companies in years. BTW, anyone wanting Legos, get them now. Lego is going into stores and taking their stuff back. P.S. Another funny note; a couple days ago I received an e-mail from TRU asking me to complete a survey on my latest purchase to be entered into a "drawing for a chance to win a $500 "R"Us Gift Card!" A gift card they probably won't send. Packed parking lot. Twice what it usually is this time of year:

My TRU had the Marvel Legends Hydra pack and the new Deadpool wave. Lots of Hydra packs. I decided to go ahead and grab the True Heroes Six-wheeled armor vehicle as there was only one left and intended to use it for RIOT from Eagle Force. I'll probably grab a vehicle each week until they are closed.

I hope the banks feds try owners accept and I selfishly hope my TRU is one of the 300. But I also feel that if one store can remain that the franchise will expand again. I think the feds should step in and save tru and that Bain and the other companies should be held accountable for the tru dept . Since everyone and their uncle knows
They just buy companies and put their dept on them. |
