It was Hasbro and Paramount equally. ROC severely wounded and Retalaiation put the final nail in the coffin. Had either of those movies had the success that any of the Transformers movies had it wouldn't be a conversation right now. Hasbro flooded the market with ROC movie merchandise and the movie basicly bombed at the box office. Leaving stores with tons of merchandise that they couldn't move. With retaliation Hasbro did what it always tends to do and filled the 1st few waves with the same 5 characters repeatedly causing figures to peg warm while stores dropped the line before the last couple wave of figures people actually wanted could be released and ultimately ended up at discount chains or online only.

I blame HASBRO completely for the mishandling of the line. To me that is the reality and cause of the performance of the JOE line. The movie is on the horizon but the the time that is passing without any product at store level is leaving a lot of us with a bad taste in our mouths. All I can say is the product to come better kick so much ass that it'll be felt 100 years down the road.

Yeah, it is really frustrating. Hasbro really has become very PC when it comes to GI Joe. I really didn't like the fact in ROC they made Breaker Mr. Frenchie. I do agree also, that TF is the power house right now though the latest film didn't do too well. It's funny back in the day GI joe came out first.
Hasbro just made the toys based on what the studio did. Incidentally, after TLK's under performance, they are taking a more active role in the development of the Transformers films.

I just don’t get Hasbro’s logic when it comes to this brand. The 25th line did incredibly well, which gave way to ROC which did not sell well, which gave way to POC some of the best selling and beloved figures of all time, only to be canceled early for the Retaliation line even though the damn movie got pushed back over a year at that point. Obviously the Retaliation line under sold quite a bit with the exception of the few ARAH style characters sprinkled in, and due to the fact that many of the garbage based movie figures became peg warmers, Hasbro concluded the line was not worth their time based solely on the fact that figures based on bad movies would not sell. Taking no consideration of the fact that G.I. Joe can be a major seller when properly marketed to its core base of fans.

Well, they did then release the 50th line. Not sure how that sold but it delivered some more ARAH in Modern Era, which was welcome, and improved in some aspects on the 25th articulation and level of detail.

The delay sounds like a good way to clear all the 3.75 in all channels so they can revive the brand with 6 inchers. Micronauts before Joes? Really?

I hope the 2020 Gi Joe movie is a reboot. It will be cool to get new figures no matter what though. Two years is a long wait...

I do definitely see there being a SDCC figure or a small set of figures. And when you think about merchandise for a movie, it gets released like 6 mos before the film comes out. We could see Joes on the shelves mid to end of 2019. I hope they sprinkle in some ARAH figures for the die hard fans. I think taht is the best we can hope for. I still wonder if the new film is part 3 or a reboot. An 80s style reboot would be the most badass thing imaginable.
