Here's a quote from an article about Said Taghmaoui (Breaker) found in the Dec 31, 07-Jan 7, 08 issue of Newsweek magazine (p. 74) issued here in Japan:
"And he'll soon begin filming with costar Sienna Miller the first of three megabudget 'G.I. Joe' movies based on the Marvel comic-book series." A few things to note: Mention of three movies and of Marvel. Does that mean the mighty Marvel has (or will re-acquire) the license back or is Newsweek stuck in the '80's? |

Well the movie IS based on the G.I. Joe comic of the 80's, which would be Marvel. Don't think it implies they're going to be re-acquiring it.
But it is interesting they've already decided to make 3 even before they started filming. Not surprising but interesting.

studio execs have been quoted as saying that trilogies bring in more revenue and allowe a greater creative freedom than a standalone movie.

Yeah, making 3 movies isn't uncommon--just an interesting tidbit I didn't think had been so overtly stated as of yet. And regarding Mavel: I agree, Porphus. The article didn't imply any change of hands and, of course, the reference to the original run fits, but just some thought provoking wording...

I honestly hope that Marvel doesn't acquire the license again. While they did great things with it in the '80s, Marvel is a very different company these days. In my opinion, they churn out mostly drek in recent years.
I think Devil's Due is doing great with the license overall, though I could've done without "Reloaded".

I'm still honestly surprised at the lack of movie trilogies being made simultaneously. After LOTR I thought we would see companies taking that chance on "established" properties and saving money on producing 3 individual movies.
Granted that isn't the case with something like GIJOE or TFs where there really isn't an established storyline/books, but it surprises me still. |
