Man. 11 years since rise and 7 since retaliation by 2020. Probably will be a total reboot.

I think we need to ask ourselves....Is what we want to see the best thing for the GI Joe franchise going forward? By franchise I mean toys and media. I love the Hama GI Joe in all it's forms. But that appeals to us GI Joe fans who played with these toys in the 80 and early 90's. Hasbro is a toy company, first and foremost. Yes they want to extend their business into other avenues to increase their revenue. But in the end, toys are their primary business and in this day and age the toys need a media presence in order to sell.
With all that being said, can Larry's version of ARAH GI Joe still sell toys and movies to 8 year olds? I asking..... |

I still think there's plenty of potential for G.I. Joe to be a major player in the imaginations of the world's current kids. I don't have any myself, but it seems to me that there's still plenty of kids out there that buy toy guns and love to play war.
On top of that, G.I. Joe is filled with characters that certainly could appeal to new audiences. Snake Eyes is always going to be cool. Outlandish villains like Cobra Commander and Destro are always going to attract people. I think really pushing the characters' personalities in the new movie would go a long way as far as making G.I. Joe successful again. |

I know that is the sentiment of a lot of collectors here. I just don't think Hasbro shares the sentiment. |

ultimately the gi joe you guys are all holding onto is and kinda has to be dead. the era is over the interest is over and something new needs to happen. unfortunately you guys need to think marketability and brands and spotlight characters. i see alot of "i want hama like stuff" and "how about a small team of joes like lowlight and bazooka" i'm gonna be honest...hama was good for an 80s run but he's outdated...and alot of you need to get over the deep cut scrub joes that aren't going to hoist a franchise on their backs. guys like bazooka and snow job and drednoks (especially zandar...lookin at you drednok twins) and zap are all scrub tier shit. gi joe is at the point where you need duke roadblock scarlett snake eyes. like it or not those four are the faces of gi joe. the ones most people know. the mt rushmore of gi joe. zap is not going to carry your movie. zandar won't carry your movie. bazooka and salvo (cuz someone had to bring up that nobody) will not carry your movie. transformers has a big four...so does gi joe and to market and keep this going they need the four. this needs to be redone. rebooted. rethought. re....everything. if you want this franchise to thrive...really want that...you need to let sunbow, hama, and the 80s die. time to start looking towards the future because living in the past has done absolutely dick for this franchise and you're doing a disservice as fans if all you want is hama, sunbow, and 1980s. if you're not willing to do that then kiss this all goodbye after 2020. i can freely admit i don't have all the answers on what will work but i damn sure know what won't at this point when it comes to gi joe. they need new ideas new stories and a new mission statement. if teaming them up with bay's transformers as an elite group made from the ashes of S7 or NEST so be it. it's immediately recognizable. if cobra has to be a mercenary group not "terrorist organization determined to take over the world" so be it. frankly i think this movie should be a relatively small scale skirmish...people are over the 'end of the world if we don't win' plotline. the joe team needs to be a small strikeforce not a cartoon army. maybe they aren't even gi joe till the end of the movie. maybe their a few survivors of a massive ambush and band together and from that rises gi joe with hawk and an overseer or something. i feel IDW had an interesting start with them all being soldiers that "died" in combat and they're more secretive. a lot more can be done with that than some goofy MASS device, weather dominator, or brainwave scanner stupidness. things need to change big time. and deviations need to be accepted...or this dies for good.

I mean that toys (Lego and Hasbro, etc.) and dumb director have killed a Religion. For me the Saga ends on Endor. Episode VII and VIII are "Legends".

Why are we talking about Star Wars on a thread about a new G.I. Joe movie? Speaking of the new G.I. Joe movie I have hopes for it to be good along with the Micronauts & DnD movies, why do I have hope is because Paramount made Iron Man 1 & 2 as well as Thor 1 & Captain America 1, so they have a background with starting a shared movie universe. So that gives me hope that G.I. Joe, Micronauts, & DnD will be good movies.

Call me silly but wouldn't it be better to come up with a script, a cast and start production on an actual film before announcing a release date?
