Wow! A ton of design effort went into these and they look pro. We shouldn't be questioning "scale" or "modern vs g1" and just enjoy the creativity/talent that went into these.
I love them, bravo Mike Samsel!!! |

I used to buy these customs from the guy who came up with them--I don't know if he will want to be known in public in case there are any issues with Hasbro, but I thought I'd share a special custom I commissioned from him some years back. I asked for an Optimus Prime package that encompassed everything I loved collecting in the '80s. It's called "Alan's 1980s" (that's my name). Enjoy!

The amount of time, effort & attention to detail in this custom is truly amazing! It looks great and if this were at retail, I'm sure it would do well. However, discussion about the direction & the future of the brands we love should be encouraged; not discouraged. At a time when the only brick & mortar store to carry G.I.Joe is facing an uncertain future, new ideas from their customer base should be welcome. I loved all of the SDCC crossover sets, but I only own one. The merit & value of this custom is that it proves that much more can be done with this idea. If those SDCC sets were shared TRU exclusives, I would own every one of them and financially strapped TRU would've gotten a piece of that transaction every time. I might have picked up a few more things while I was in TRU. All the justifiable praise for this custom ought to show, there is a willing consumer fan base for product such as this; if only someone would carry it! If Hasbo thinks they can't make a new Killer Whale Hovercraft, because the Joe fan base is too small to support it, then put it in a Transformer box, change the colors, throw Cutter in there and call it "Transformers Seaspray"! Rerelease the Patriot Grizzly, throw a new Rip It figure in the box & slap a Decepticon name on it! Expand the fan base by catering to both Joe and TF fans & help supply TRU with product we'll actually want to buy; in numbers that cater to mass retail, as opposed to the limited run of SDCC product. I don't mean to hijack this thread with a rant, but an idea as good as this custom should be shared & expanded on. Keep up the great customizing! |

Interesting stuff, even if I'm not a Transformers fan per se.
Not sure why Slaughter has a Viper rifle. And the fan club info on the back is a peculiar inclusion, as is the repeated "Tag Team Terminators" line. I'd would not have named that Decepticon jet SNOWSTORM, as that's a Joe's name...but many people don't care about any GI JOE characters made after 1987. But then, I'd never have the talent and patience to make these, so... |
