I attended Hascon today (Saturday). Here is my take:
The convention was amazingly organized and well run, with Hasbro employees everywhere to assist. The brand experiences were fun, with emphasis on getting kids to play. To me, this is the missing element at many of the other collector conventions, and Hascon delivered as advertised as a "Fan-mily" event. My 3 year old daughter loved playing at the table with Star Wars Galactic Heroes, Transformers Rescue Bots, My Little Pony, Disney Princess, Trolls, Baby Alive, etc. I enjoyed getting two exclusives for lines I collect (TFers Titans Return Arcee and Star Wars Black Series Captain Rex). My wife enjoyed the social aspect of talking to designers and creators for the toys we collect. Having an onsite Hasbro Toy Shop made buying things we liked easy and great takeaway from the experience. Sadly, G.I. Joe was relegated to outside the main showroom floor from where all the brand experiences were. It was kind of a lonely existence, with no play areas for kids, and as shared, just kind of a museum like atmosphere with all the 2-ups, prototypes and artwork. The G.I. Joe movie props were cool (they had Firefly and his missile bike, along with CC, SE and SS), but way outdated to how long ago the movie came out. I got the chance to chat with Ron Rudat there, and asked him about Joe Con. He mentioned he had to pay his own way last time, which he was not too happy about. There were several designers there gathered as kind of a reunion, with most seemingly not planning any future Joe related events. To me, this really brings home how far the line has declined and is pretty much moth-balled until someone resurrects it. I'll keep a candle lit. This would have been a golden opportunity to bring back G.I. Joe in a big way. Here's hoping future Hascons will do just that - play area for kids, exclusives for the adult collectors, and a true brand experience. G.I. Joe deserves this type of crown jewel treatment.

the club absolutely, positively cannot help but shoot themselves in the foot at any and every given opportunity. It is the furthest thing from fan service. just a cash grab wrapped in a symphonic comedy of errors. I'm glad people get the figures that hasbro is uninterested in producing, but I sure hope this hascon thing turns that around. hawesome. back to the friends marathon. |

Those pics are so awesome. Like watching dinosaur models in the museum, extinct and useless but still fun to see and wonder!!

I went not expecting much on display for Joe, so I wasn't disappointed in that they didn't have much. Also, I didn't expect to see any new Joe product, so again I wasn't disappointed that there wasn't any. I hope in the future that changes though and we do see new product and Joe has a larger area dedicated to it.
I did thoroughly enjoy the three Joe panels. They were very well thought out. It was a good experience and I enjoyed the panels more than anything else there. |

Man, really sucks to have missed the joe centric Friday activities. Glad to hear they were well done though. Let's hope there is some development with the brand in the next year so 2018 has some joe content beside carrols across the hall from bathrooms and elevator.

I was kind of hoping there would be some new toy vault display of what's to come. Not, what came out in the 80s. That's not a slight against Hasbro. I just want something to feel hopeful for.

The way I see my own collection right now, I blame it all on rubber Duke Arms that won't bend 90 degrees.
