Sooooo...
has anybody gone shopping? I went with my girls last Saturday. We had some gift cards to cash in on. The line took an hour and fifteen minutes to go through. We were joking that it's like going to Disneyland. The girls got a bunch of stuff and dad scored a "Guardians of the Galaxy" team pack. Groot is well sculpted as is Gamora. And I scored several "Thunderbirds are go" packs with the robot M.A.X. |

(Just goes to show how hard it is to get new characters to "stick" when Crossbones, a comic character who is going on 30 years old, is considered "fairly new.") Hehe I'm like minded Jmac. I still consider Carnage and Venom to be "new." but JJ's point about K2's character is worth merit.
With Star Wars, characters can sell on their looks alone, like Phasma. With comic book characters, usually it takes a little more interest in their character to make them sell. Hasbro did more of the post-2000 Marvel creations in the 3.75" line than the 6" line I think. They've been selective enough in 6" that their choices usually sell, like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Fantomex, Anti-Venom and Spidey Noir, but maybe almost as many have been duds, like Nico Minoru, White Tiger, Kamala Khan, the female Beetle and Ex Nihilo. Most of the successful ones are really variant versions of main heroes rather than all-new characters. |

Funny that came up! I still think of Crossbones as new, even though I was in about 9th grade when he popped up in Captain America.

A statement from LinkedIn from Ellia Kassoff, founder of Strategic Marks:
As some of you know, our company Strategic Marks, LLC has acquired KB-Toys about a year ago. During that period, we had been working on several models to resurrect the "Great American Toy Store" and to make sure the stores can compete with Toys R Us, other brick and mortar stores as well as on-line retail. Well, with the demise of Toys R Us, this week, we have now accelerated our business plan and hope to have our stores up and running before Christmas. We're in discussions with many of the toy manufactures, as we try to find out the best way to support them and the 20% loss of the US toy market due to the Toys R Us liquidation. We believe we will have the infrastructure in-place and [hopefully] save the toy industry. If you are a toy manufacturer or distributor, or ex KB Toys associate, please feel free to call us at: 949-424-1664 or email us at: [email protected]. We hope to help the industry and at the same time resurrect the amazing KB Toys name! https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/were-...ellia-kassoff/ The only thing I hated more than TRU pricing was KB Toys in the mall pricing. I did like their outlet stores and found some gems now and again, but really other than it being a toy store that at least exists I doubt KB Toys returning will affect me personally in any way. Hoping perhaps Marauder John and MTF Toys might get a foothold in with KB Toys as the military toy supplier (or one of them) as I've heard he has some connections to the old KB Toys. |

IIRC this is not the first time these KB toys revival stories have surfaced.

I for one am happy to hear this about KB. Fond memories of the Mall KB and yes you could find some nice things at the outlets. I was devastated when Children's Palace left(which we had before TRU) then KB. And TRU was that was left. So while there are not high expectations for KB yet I welcome it.
And man if KB and Marauder John could happen that would be awesome. My dream would be MJ getting his figures into a toy chain world wide, carded and at even better prices for all the entry level figures and a basic load out, and then you can still buy extra and varied stuff off his website. |

Children's Palace was always my favorite store too. The layout was just perfect and I don't remember them ever drastically changing it like Toys R Us did. Kiddie City was my third choice, because it had more of a warehouse feel to it. I'd have to climb on the shelves to reach the top rack of figures as a kid. there was another one that sprung up in the late 90's, Factory Toy Warehouse I think. I remember getting a lot of the 2000 stuff there. But it was an odd store. I think most of the times that I went in there, I was the only person in the store.

Amazon is looking at buying up TRU properties. They aren't interested in keeping TRU alive but are interested in the physical buildings - my guess would be at least partially to use them for distribution centers. |
