Took my daughter by TRU so she could use her Xmas gift card she still had. Would have been nice to rummage through some Joe stuff. Pretty depressing overall. At least my daughter had some fun. She picked up Splatoon2 for her Switch.

I am really going to miss TRU the one in Montgomery AL Ive been going to for over 30 years. I remember getting Jungle Hunt there for my Atari 2600. Going to be sad to see them go. I am thankful that we all got to grow up in those times though. Thankful for stuff like the Tank that we can share fond memories and reminisce together. I feel sorry for what the youth of today has missed out on.

One silver lining, the toy companies may need to cater more to collectors and fans through online distribution with them losing a big chunk of their casual buyer sales.

I was thinking the same thing. The Kickstarter phenomenon can't be ignored.

Yes it can. Because it doesn't fit into a corporation's concept of business and doesn't follow any pretty charts. Sorry to sound so cynical but when you see and hear the bone headed things that come from those suits, there's little faith for innovation. The future of action figures lies in the fans creating Kickstarters and 3P developers.

Wouldn't it be crazy to go to a TRU store this week and see a ton of Joe product they failed to put on the floor over the past six-seven years (Pursuit of Cobra, 30th Anniversary, 35th Anniversary, etc.)? One could only hope.

If losing TRU means a big hit against Hasbro and Mattel, I wonder if they'll start to cater more to the online market and less "brick n' mortar". Things like the Collector's Club, more expensive figures in limited quantities, but geared towards older collectors (with more money). I wouldn't mind that at all.

It doesn't matter if the KS phenomenon 'can' be ignored if they're not gonna ignore it. |

TRU announced they're closing all their UK stores. An announcement about their US locations could be made as early as today.

I don't think haslab is going to be the platform that some of us are wanting or expecting it to be. It sounds very much like Hasbro's only plan for this is to do large-scale projects that otherwise would not or could not have been done. I am not an expert by any means just my simple opinion. I think the best bet would be for larger companies like Hasbro and Mattel to further pursue a direct-to-consumer type of online sales. I guess only time will tell & we will see how all this plays out in the next few weeks / months or whatever. I am sure that they (big Toy manufacturers) are paying as much attention to this Toys R Us issue as we are if not more.
