I'm losing a local Babies 'R Us, but both of the two closest TRUs are remaining open, thankfully.

Interesting article I ran across today that includes a history of the company:

I was quick to join in the chorus of fellow collectors blasting TRU for how poorly they have managed their stores. It was easy to vent at them from the arm chair of my living room. That was when it seemed to be a way off. Now it's a reality and my mood has changed.
I sauntered into a TRU after a morning meeting yesterday. It was one that I had never been to before. I don't know if it was an old school, rebuild location like my neighborhood store, or a new school expansion. It didn't matter. Standing there in that TRU, the familiar smell, the corn ball seasonal items; it was my childhood. As I stood there it hit hit me, this could go away. My anger turned into melancholy. There are only a few toy lines sold at retail that I even bother with anymore, and they seem to be shrinking. All the same, I don't want it to go away. That store is on the published list of locations to close. Just like with TLJ movie; I'm surprised at just how much it bothers me.

Out of the four stores in my immediate are, two are closing. Fortunately, the two are way out of my way and I almost never go there. I'm a little surprised about one because it was brand new, and one of the nicest stores around.

Its funny, I felt this was coming and during Christmas, I purposely went to my local TRU to say goodbye and walk around and buy some toys and games for possibly the last time.
So many great memories. For being told to wait in the car during a thunderstorm while my mom came out with the 89 Batmobile to buying my first ever SNES console with NBA Jam and SSF2. |

I have a lot of memories of Toys R Us being the go to place for birthdays. My mom would drive me over and I could pick out one video game. She would always tell me we didn't have much time and to hurry up. We went to TRU once, maybe twice a year and she wanted me to hurry?!

I must be doing something right because none of my stores are on the list, and I was sure my main one was going to be on the chopping block.

It appears things are getting worse for TRU:
"Toys “R” Us Inc. is making preparations for a liquidation of its bankrupt U.S. operations after so far failing to find a buyer or reach a debt restructuring deal with lenders, according to people familiar with the matter." "The toy chain’s U.S. division entered bankruptcy in September with the goal of emerging as a leaner business with a more sustainable debt load. The company secured a $3.1 billion debtor-in-possession loan to maintain operations while it developed a plan to reduce its unmanageable $5 billion debt. But Toys “R” Us’s results worsened more than expected during the holidays, casting doubt on the chain’s viability." https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/comp...cid=spartanntp

Yeah I wonder if it had anything to do with the amount of greed the execs expressed when they were asking for Millions of dollars for bonuses in order for them to perform at thier best? I can't speak for the rest of the country but hearing that it turned my stomach which ultimately kept me from really going out of my way to shop at TRU
