TRU will be closing almost 200 stores in the US.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...ock/999092001/ Low earning stores, yes, but that means some people will find themselves without a local source. I heard my closest store didn't have a great black-friday. Looking at the specials they had, twas no surprise; junk. Old, high-priced, shelf clogging junk. They really need to do something smart......besides giving a few million bucks to the incompetent morons at the top. That is akin to giving the captain of the Titanic a promotion and another ship.

The boom has been lowered. Toys R Us has officially announced that they will be closing approximately 180 stores across the United States. Click the link to read the full story and to see a state-by-state list of exactly which stores will be closing.
A few in my area are headed to the chopping block, but thankfully my local one, which is one of the best stocked and best run in the area, is remaining open. I had a bit of a scare because at one point I thought the store was going to close, but I realized that it was just the Babies R Us nearby (the state-by-state list in the article doesn't distinguish between the two, so if there's any confusion, check the address listed). So I dodged a bullet there, since my favorite TRU will remain open. However, this is a major bummer, as it signifies the end of an era of sorts. Hell, even the Toys R Us where I grew up as a kid is closing, and that one had been there since before I was born.

One of my stores is on the chopping block as well (the one I went to as a kid also). I'd like to look forward to the silver lining of a going-out-of-business sale, but I have a feeling I won't score anything good at a good price.

Figured my local store was closing when I got an email (a group email obviously) from the CEO of Toys R Us. :P
Sure enough, local TRU is shutting down. Probably means my days of shopping at TRU with any regularity are done, as getting to the next-nearest one is not only well out of my way, it usually looks like a hurricane ripped through it and good effin' luck finding anything new or desirable there. My local store was usually pretty decent in terms of being able to find stuff (as long as it wasn't Star Wars), but alas, that was probably a symptom of not doing very good business. On top of that, three or four of the other TRUs I've frequented across my life are shutting down. Ah well, we'll see what the discounts look like, as that might finally get me to pull the trigger on some of that True Heroes stuff. |

Looks like they are shutting down a Babies R' Us in my area. Frankly I'm surprised they didn't target the Toys R' Us just down the street. It's really run down and always only has 1 checkout lane open no-matter how many people are waiting.
One of the other ones listed in my state is no surprise. It's located in a hard to find shopping center with no signs. I've tried to stop by several times and couldn't find the place even using GPS. |

I'm glad to see none of my local stores are on the list.

Neither of the 2 stores near me are closing, but I have to say it is very rare I go in TRU. Maybe 4 or 5 times per year the last few years.
And it is because: 1) there is no SA 1:18 scale Star Wars figures sold there (only at Walmart) 2) SA 1:18 scale Marvel and Joe stuff has been lackluster and in very few numbers 3) No new SA 1:18 scale toys. KS and internet sites have those these days |
