If I'm not mistaken, toy stores generate something like 4 times their annual revenue right before Christmas. And according to the last thing I heard, the last few years are seeing more and more people doing their shopping online.
It's not just TRU that's suffering. Pretty much all retail, aside from the department stores and places that sell 'life essentials' are taking a huge hit. What's the point in sifting through racks and shelves when I can just plop my ass at my desk, clicky-click-click, and boom- in five days I have exactly what I'm looking for. No line, no screaming kids, no messes, no burning gas money, no awkward stares and being followed by store staff for being 30-something in a toy store/department... So yeah, long live Amazon. Was nice knowing you, TRU. |

What I don't get is why brick and mortar's don't make it worth your while to go there. For instance, at Barnes & Noble, some hardcovers are 40 bucks, but on Ebay, the official Barnes & Noble Ebay store has that same book, brand new and undamaged, shipped to you for free with a Buy it Now of 24.95.
So, while it's fun to go and shop, I usually just take pics of what interests me, and then buy it at home later. |

Ho ho ho, where are these GI Joe vehicles you speak of?
Does this mean True Heroes *GASP, beat the stuffing out of them in the market place? Nope. It means Hasbro's so inconsistent at releases that True Heroes ate that whole aisle. Besides, I have yet to see Hasbro release anything that looks like a real life vehicle in a while besides the Vamp, so they're not even playing the same game anymore. The vamp and cobra night landing looked pretty realistic to me sans the grey camo.

I think that the buyers have a hard time figuring what will be home runs and what will be duds. I know that there are Star Wars fans but the stuff that they carried for the last couple of movies sucked. I get that kids today like tech stuff but a kid is a kid and give him or her a toy they can play with and use their imagination they will play for hours with it. I think the other problems they have is with the product lines they carry they from WWE, Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and other movie tie in's instead of the cartoon tie in's that we use to have.
The other thing that hurts TRU is the consolidation in the toy manufactures now Hasbro and Mattel pretty much pick which lines they want to push. When Kenner, Hasbro, Mattel, Tonka, and Play School all had lines for all sorts of TV shows. We do not see that as much anymore would it not have been cool to have Expendable figures or Fast and Furious 3 3/4 inch figures and cars hell even a James Bond line. But with the lack of manufacture we will not see a company produce figure lines. |

Well, you can't read the full story about it, unless you subscribe to the Wall Street Journal. So that link to it sucks ass.
