That's an interesting history lesson, but not really a good answer when it's concerning a very expensive, convention-exclusive box set - the last one the club will ever be doing - and a character like Sgt. Smasher that no one gives a shit about. There's not an alternate universe in reality where someone would pick him over Sgt Slaughter.

Nothing requires you or me to purchase that “very expensive, convention-exclusive box set”… we don’t have to have it, unless we want to. Other options are to purchase the Green Beret set (for less money), or general admission at the door. Another option is to not attend the convention entirely. Of course “there's not an alternate universe in reality where someone would pick him over Sgt. Slaughter”, because that never even happened. Sgt. Slaughter was not available for legal contractual reasons. We can hold our breath, pout in a childish manner, and stomp our feet, but that doesn’t change reality. Sgt. Slaughter not being an option… reality. Merrill’s Marauders being an impressive chapter in US Army Ranger history… reality. Crying over a 3 3/4” action figure of a former wrestler… unreal.

I don't know Playful, I am gonna have to go with Dolemite on this. While you are correct on alot of your points like Sarge not being an option and no one twisting anyone's arm to buy this set. I don't think Dolemite was crying over it either. While that is a great story, which I did not know prior to your post I don't think the club thought that deeply into it. I will also say I think a majority of the club's members (myself included) both those who have bought this set and those that choose to pass on it. Would have perfered another group had we been given the option. Remember a lot of people had signed up based on the Slaughters Marauders name alone thinking we would see Sarge and the club only announced he would not be included after the fact. I will also add the MR C just doesn't make sense to me as to why he would be chosen to lead this team considering the one and only other time we had seen him he was an actor for cobra now not only is he a full blown Joe he out ranks some on the best Joe's on the team? I think ANY other JOE member would have been a better Choice. FALCON would have been great option one that most would have been ok with seeing how we never got a proper V1 yet. Hell Duke could have done it. But for the club Mr C made the most sense? WTF? Like I said I just don't think they put to much thought into it.

I’m not crying for Sgt. Slaughter, and I don't think Dolemite was crying over him either. That’s why I worded my post the way I did… to dissuade anyone from even considering crying about it at this stage in the game. I also agree with you that many of us, myself included, would have preferred a different theme for this set. For example, the theme I want, D.E.F. vs. Evil Headhunters, seems largely ignored by the Club, but will probably be revealed that they tried and it was blocked by Hasbro. This set we're getting now is nice, (possibly nicer than last year’s set), and my guess is that it would have included Sgt. Slaughter if they could have. I think we all guessed right that Sgt. Smasher was the Club’s legal gymnastic effort to get us the Slaughter’s Marauders deco version of Sgt. Slaughter by calling him by his foreign brand name of Sgt. Smasher. Possibly it was stopped by Hasbro legal dept., and this convention boxed set was cleverly modified by changes to that figure. As a fellow tanker revealed to me, Sgt. Smasher bears a resemblance to Marine Corps sergeant Craig “Pitbull” Pittman, professional wrestler for World Championship Wrestling (WCW) 1994-1997. If that was the Club’s intention, then that was brilliant on their part, because they could tell Hasbro legal that this character is inspired by “Mister C” from the Sunbow episode “The Wrong Stuff” which aired on Thanksgiving Day, 1985. Maybe a little white lie, maybe not. We even managed to get Ninja Force T’Gin-Zu, Ninja-Ku, and Glenda, by innocent deceptions such as this… they work. Possibly we might even get Lt. Falcon as the parachute drop/carded figure this year. I’m optimistic. I thought we would get vehicles this year, but was wrong. I thought we would get Sgt. Slaughter this year, but was also wrong. I even thought we would meet Robert “Bob” Remus as a guest this year. I’m still convinced that the Club is saving some nice surprises for us yet, and believe I will be vindicated in a month’s time. No offense was meant toward Dolemite, so I hope he takes none.

You’re not being very honest with yourself, or the rest of us for that matter.

Does Hasbro or the club have any idea of US military history other than maybe General's Patton and Eisenhower? I don't think so since they are based be on fictional characters... And for that matter that's not their concern to pay tribute to any former army men/hero...
No, I guess you’re right. Neither Hasbro or the Club has any idea of US military history other than maybe General's Patton and Eisenhower. G.I. Joe probably doesn’t have anything to do with any real American heroes… or does it?

Well, let me think. Hasbro and the GIJCC made available: John Glenn, Buzz Aldrin, Roy Benavidez, Omar Bradley, SFC Charlie Bury, Robert Crippen, Francis S. Currey, Jimmy Doolittle, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John R. Fox, Ulysses S. Grant, Bob Hope, John F. Kennedy, Robert E. Lee, Douglas MacArthur, Audie Murphy, Mitchell Paige, George S. Patton, Francis J. Pierce, Colin Powell, Ernie Pyle, Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington, and Ted Williams.

Looking forward to our beer;)
@Playful: I am also still being Optimistic about Falcon as a possible paradrop figure. As far as the set goes what's done is done. I like most of them and will fine tune a couple others to my liking. With the announcement from the club saying No vehicles I have hopes for some possible other figures getting done.
