Still, you do have a point even if it wasn't directed at me. Even though I don't post much or spend a lot of time thinking about JOE, arguing over the direction of the brand is a waste of time and nothing will come from it. |

The problem with people saying we need a full court press on multimedia is that costs a LOT of money. Video game development isn't cheap, especially if you want a GOOD video game. It can cost as much as or more than a feature film to make a top-tier video game these days. It also tends to take a few years.
Sure, you could cheap out and rush development just to get a licensed video game to market...but that could end up hurting the brand more than helping it when the game is garbage. Likewise with an animated series...those aren't super-cheap to make and at this point there's a limited number of licensees looking to produce a Joe cartoon (to say nothing of figuring out how/where you air it...you can't FORCE Netflix to partner with you, for example), so Hasbro might have to bear the bulk of production costs if they tried. What it boils down to is that unless they get outside help, Hasbro's looking at an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars on the HOPE that they can revive a franchise, and if it failed? Well...that's the kind of thing that gets a brand buried for most of the remainder of our natural lives. tl;dr - There's a reason that you don't get the multimedia tie-ins until AFTER a brand has had a (recent) major success. |

I'm 100% certain that JOE toys will never again be a big success if all Hasbro does is try to put out a toyline with no movie, cartoon or video game. I know they are all costly, but it's gonna be necessary if they to want bring JOE back and keep it going.
Something like a 6 inch black series might work for a few waves, but it won't last by itself in the long run. And really, they'd be better off focusing on an affordable line aimed primarily at kids to start out with. I'm sure most of the diehards would support it anyway. If the ball ever really gets going again, that's when there can be a premium line for the hardcore crowd. Last edited by lantern48; 08-09-2017 at 01:17 PM.. |

Looks like Hasbro's Cinematic Universe is off to a very shaky start, even before it gets going. I still think it's not too late to fire Akiva Goldsman and get a good creative team for the new Transformers (not counting Bumblebee which is already in production) & G.I. Joe movies.
Viacom Execs Go To China To Address Concerns of Huahua Media Investors After Paramount Underperformance "Angry over losing tens of millions of dollars on a $1 billion slate-financing deal with Paramount Pictures, Chinese film company Huahua Media is looking for assurances that the studio’s upcoming movies will be more commercially successful. The Chinese company is particularly disappointed with the reception of “Baywatch,” “Ghost in the Shell,” and “Transformers: The Last Knight,” and believes that Paramount’s creative team has not done a good job of making films that will play to international audiences." They should, but there is now to much money involved.
US box office sales are declining while Chinas are growing. China invest tons of money so they can censor anything they don't like. They have already done this to Gi Joe. 15 Movies That Made Drastic Changes For A Chinese Audience

I hope Hasbro revitalize entirely the franchise.

I really believe the idea of a GI Joe: Rescue Squad would really work with kids. Also a GI Joe type cartoon that looks like Teen Titans. And Hasbro should make a Joe line that resembles those cartoon characters, like they do with the Teen Titans action figure line. I mean, the formulas are there that will bring GI Joe back to the forefront but will Hasbro be willing to bring GI Joe into that formula?
My father (Birdman Generation) and I (80s Joe fan) like it with just a few episodes that we watched... As a matter of fact Kirk Bozigian mentioned he worked on that line of Rescue Heroes... A new GI Joe cartoon like that will appeal to kids immensely...

They should just modernize the arah franchise and cater to the hardcore fans. If we love it the general audience will love it. Either a movie or a new cartoon series.
They already tried to change it up with Roc and Renegades and both were failures. Dance with those that brought you to the dance. ARAH
