Still doesn't make sense. Why? because I can't see Hasbro putting out something like that which is intended for the movie without banking on a chance to sell it as a Preview Figure.
Hasbro loves releasing Sneak peek movie figures to promote their line, releasing such a sweet figure like this with an all new sculpt doesn't fit the profile of how Hasbro does business when it comes to movie lines. Quote:
How doesn't it? Remember, the ME line was a "bonus" because the original 25th stuff (which was only supposed to be the 5-packs) sold so well. The RoC toys have been planned for awhile, regardless of what had gone on with the 25th/ME, the RoC was still coming out.
So what if the Para-Viper was supposed to be part of the RoC line originally? It seems to fit with the look of the Elite Neo-Viper and the Dog Handler that we've seen. So if that was the case, then when it was released as part of the ME line, it was Hasbro using an RoC mold for the ME line. Which would then make the ME one the repaint since that was not it's original intended colors. |

The point is that it's being called a repaint, but if it was intended for RoC first then the RoC colors are the true colors and technically the ME was the repaint.

I wanted a black Para-Viper so I put his gear, head and feet onto the Wild Bill that came in the SRO set and it looked pretty cool. I liked that Wild Bill figure too so I eventually switched the parts back.
Now with this new Para-Viper I can have the best of both worlds. I've been looking for someone to pilot the Pthyon Patrol Conquest so this new Para-Viper might just do the trick. I might have to modify the gear to fit him in the cockpit because he's made for jumping not piloting.

No, what I'm saying is, if, and that's a big IF the para was intended for ROC, they would have released it as a ROC promo/sneak peek/check this shit out, figure with all the coming soon, etc writing all over.
Hasbro wouldn't want to spend money on a movie franchise figure only to dump it into the classic line like that. I believe it was just a in house figure they designed to go along with the RPG trooper, Flint on Cobra disguise and Matt Tracker. They probably figured they could reuse the parts down the road like they are doing with the Eels, Torpedo, and all the other parts they reuse over and over. It's just a mere coincidence that is looks like an ROC designed character. |

So if that was the case, then when it was released as part of the ME line, it was Hasbro using an RoC mold for the ME line. Which would then make the ME one the repaint since that was not it's original intended colors. and when the movie was announced, Hasbro knew the time period between then and the release, and scheduled in waves of figures, which they then began designing. the fact that the Para-Viper came out as far from the movie as it did (almost a full year before the movie) shows how far ahead of the movie that figure was conceived of and put into production, and thus not part of it. not to mention the fact that no other figure released in that time period is for ROC, so why would the Para-Viper be the exception. also, there is nothing about the design that reflects ROC more than ME. in fact, I'd argue otherwise. you're really stretching to make the connection simply because your prefer the new color scheme. maybe Croc Master was designed for ROC too since the mold is being used for the Terra-Viper and was released in the ME line during the same wave as Para-Viper? maybe Dusty was designed for ROC and they just threw him in the dvd set? all possibilities with nothing to dispute the idea other than the fact that they came out during a completely separate toyline (which is a pretty good dispute). it is far more likely that Hasbro is releasing existing figures as repaints in ROC (the precedent is obvious with all the other repaints), than having designed a figure for ROC but released it first for the ME line (of which this would be the only one). which not only seems more likely but logical? the "ME" line was just a continuation of the 25th line with the anniversary taken off the package because it was no longer 25 years (and as such was just a packaging change no different than changing the characters on the back), and as such, every figure released in it was obviously for it. saying it could have been meant for the ROC line is as arbitrary as saying so was the Eel, which came out later, or the BAT, which came out before. The ME wasn't necessarily planned, or planned to be as big/as much as it was, but RoC toys were planned. The Para-Viper came out well after the movie was announced and the line was being designed.
I don't think it's that much of a stretch to think that Hasbro went ahead and released some molds in the ME line that were originally going to be intended for the RoC line. And yeah, some of the things done for the ME are making it's way to the RoC line. I actually prefer the ME colors, it fits more with classic Cobra. The RoC is nice, hell the Para-Viper is just one of the best figures made period. Doesn't really matter either way. I think stuff that was created for the ME line is showing up in RoC and stuff that had been in the works for RoC probably showed up in ME.

Figures take close to 6-8 months before conception. The para came out before the movie was in production which would also mean most of the line was in planning stages yet the para was already made and shipped.
Absolutely in no way was it intended for RoC. Maybe an afterthought of the creation of it, but no way. Again, Hasbro would not release a new mold for an upcoming line without a sneak peek design. They would want hype with it or save it for the actual line. Hasbro isn't stupid when it comes to promotions to get advertisement out. Maybe in the end result, yes, but like this. no way. If you honestly believe this, then push for this question on the next Q & A. It's an answerable question since it doesn't reveal any secrets. |
