G.I. Joe #6 Review
Snake Eyes is a character that is well known to G.I. Joe fans, and Chuck Dixon has been keeping him busy off-panel. In this issue, not only do we find out what he’s been up to, but he is finally unleashed, playing a more active role. Hawk is very suspicious of Snake Eyes, and orders Megabyte to track him down. He has reason to be suspicious, as Snake Eyes has gone solo and according to Hawk, left the unit. We haven’t seen Megabyte much in the last issues, and I’m glad that she proves to be of use. The MASS part of the MASS Device is shown and it’s relevance is explained. In an effort to prove himself to The Baroness and Cobra, the MASS is of use, though with unexpected results… Remember the masked assassin from the first 1st issue? Well in this issue, we find out what exactly happened to the guy and it has something to do with the MASS. What Labrat and Scarlett couldn’t figure out is explained in this issue. The decomposing assassin was the 1st person to use the MASS, with Destro being the 2nd… The MASS is explained in understandable terms, so despite being a sci-fi element of the book, it plays a vital role for Destro, and if Cobra decides to use it, will give them even more of an edge over the Joes. Destro uses the MASS after engaging in a duel with Snake Eyes. Now a lot of you have been eagerly anticipating the moment where Snake Eyes would come out fighting. Well he does, and to those worried that it might be overdone, it isn’t. Snake Eyes doesn’t do anything flashy nor over the top. During the battle, Snake Eyes is shown in detail, and I wouldn’t be surprised if fans ended up wanting a figure based on this look. Sure it’s definitely the popular 1985 version, yet Robert Atkins has added in more gear and a few modifications. It makes for an instantly recognizable, yet modernized, version of Snake Eyes. The tension increases towards the end of this issue. With Hawk suspicious of Snake Eyes, he has become suspicious of Scarlett as well, and right after she finds leads, she is put under arrest. Things are not going down so hot at Castle Destro either, as Destro dons something very familiar out of survival, something while though symbolic, will prove to be a burden; a prison even. This issue moved the story forward, at a faster pace than previous issues. Snake Eyes springs into action yet Dixon handled his entry very well. So far, Snake Eyes definitely hasn’t been over used. What happens in this issue leaves a lot of good content to be explored in the next issue. Hawk, with heightened suspicions of Scarlett, potentially leaving the best leads they have, cold. Destro “imprisoned”, and determined to make the MASS work correctly. Snake Eyes, alone and outnumbered. This issue does a good job in setting up the next issue as an epic continuation. This is definitely one of the better issues in the series. |

Who's Megabyte? Wasn't she called Dial-Tone? Was there a name change?
The masked assassin vaporizing, had that one pegged from issue #1. Knew it would end up being the MASS and not working properly. That's no surprise. Glad the action is heating up.

I assume Destro has to wear the mask b/c of something the MASS device does.

Yeah who is Megabyte (Speed Metal's partner) Maybe Destro is going to lose his boyish good looks and have to don the mask.

I've liked the series from the beginning but this issue gets the number one spot for now. Snake-Eyes vs Destro? I didn't expect that. I agree, Shin, I would like to see this version of Snake-Eyes in a figure but mainly for his backpack, how the sword is stored. What's up with Gen.Hawk and his Nick Fury look (why's he wearing an eye patch)? They also mentioned Hisstank.com on the letters page.

I'm still on the fence about this series. I don't like the way Destro became, well, Destro. That, and his two cronies annoy the crap outta me. The Snake Eyes subplot is the most interesting thing going on. I wish things would've started out less broadly, but 7 issues in, I guess there's no going back.
