I will keep an open mind as always, but when you hear that they are taking "a more millennial approach" and "expands audience internationally and domestically" I can't help being a bit concerned. After all isn't that the same they said about Jem and the Holograms?
I think that every time they try to cater to everyone they end up making really bland films that flop horrendously. Quite honestly, I think that they are better off going to the root of what made Gi Joe a success to begin with. I would go with a darker special force unit that takes on a terrorist organization. |

Honestly this isn't unexpected.
Hasbro...much like DC has been DESPERATE...like a 28 year old virgin hitting on his 38 year old co-worker for any action...to replicate the formula of the MCU. Honestly we should be glad Joes aren't riding My Little Ponies into battle. But basically we all knew something like this was coming. And honestly...while the completest in me has been buying the IDW's combined comic universe...I'm far from enjoying it. In fact, their taking what is separately several pretty decent properties and forcing them to live together like some bastardized version of Big Brother. I expect this to be similarly tossed together. But Im not screaming DEATH OF THE LINE...I imagine we will likely see the design team tossing us old timers a bone here and there. And then likely we will get stuff via the Club in which ever form it continues. But I'm not getting my hopes up. I fully expect another era like 95 where Joe was EXTREME or SAVAGE, and similarly like 2005 when Joe went Sigma Six...ish. Either way...us old timers are probably in for a drought...which sucks for the plastic crack addict in me, but my wallet is breathing a sigh of relief. |

I will keep an open mind on this. I do agree that they should go back to the root of what made Gi Joe successful to begin with but I will wait and see with an open mind. Really, as long as We get some good ARAH or CV 4 inch joes snuck in the figure line I will be happy.

At this point I have really low expectations on any future Joe movie.
This does reek of some kinda sj reboot with politicaly correct dialogue and very little fighting. Just a bunch of cyber war hacking. If its not based strongly on the sunbow cartoon I wont be into it and thats fine. Just please dont change the figures from our beloved 4inch line to some 6inch line or worse some electronic base figure with some kinda crappy interactive app. If that happens I would be devastated And what the f*** is a head snap?

Can't say the same about my Joes. The older I get the more unwilling to embrace a new Gi Joe concept I become. |

This sounds about as boring and a waste of time as the new Mass Effect. can I get something that's not laced with politics?!?
Just give us a Ninja Force movie and call it a day.

Even from the beginning, despite names and terminology, GI Joe ARAH's core has always been a team of colorful characters fighting an evil organization of comic book super villains with semi-science fiction weapons. Hell, it has even been reported that the vintage 12" line's best years, sales wise, were during the Adventure Team era. And during ARAH, the line's two best years of sales were 1986 and 1992, hardly bastions of realism. I think it could even be argued that the most successful period(s) that GI Joe has seen since the start of the 21st century was with the "NuSculpt" Joe vs Cobra relaunch and Sigma 6 (itself largely an extension of ideas first introduced in JvC). Broadly, I don't feel there is too much to get fussy about AT THIS POINT. Much of the talk about "appealing to younger audiences" is the same marketing speak you see with any major brand relaunch (which the next GI Joe iteration WILL BE). And in some respects, GI Joe DOES need that sort of step back and reinterpretation. For all its faults, Rise of Cobra never strayed too far from, what I view, as much of the "core" of GI Joe. And it did "just okay". Personally, I'm thinking we're more likely to end up with something like Extreme or Sigma 6: iterations that down played the brand's American-centric theming in favor of something more superhero and global. About the only big reveal of this article was confirmation that GI Joe will get a legit reboot, rather than try to keep milking the existing husk of a franchise Paramount had going. Timing of this article is VERY interesting, though, in light of what Hasbro's doing next month: Hasbro To Showcase The Imagibox Project This April - Transformers News - TFW2005 While only Transformers and MLP are mentioned, I can guarantee that if Hasbro is serious about this shared universe idea, we'll see it be a focal point at the event.

I wish Hasbro would appreciate the Joe brand for what it is and not presuppose that every one of their brands must be measured against Transformers in order to be considered successful.
