Was RAH ruined by DTC, despite 10 years in between them? Did Sigma 6 destroy all the fond memories you have of your childhood? Did Issue #151 of the Marvel series somehow ruin the joy you felt when you first read issue #21? The answer to all these is...no. We can all still enjoy the 25th stuff. It still exists on our shelves and bins. We can play with them anytime. And we'll still get a few items here or there that can blend in, ala the 7packs and whatever other stuff is released (like the BP with Footloose). And honestly, there wasn't much potential left in the 25th line. I think maybe another year before they filled out the essentials. Sure, they could theoretically keep doing vehicles, but take a look at your store shelves...the vehicles weren't flying off shelves. So after the classic designs were done, we would have had to progress into something more modern. Resolute had some updated designs, but it would have only provided less than a year's product. And it wasn't near enough popular to support the line. I'm not a huge fan of the movie designs, either. Too much black for me. But we've heard numerous times that the Joes wear various outfits, which should provide some variety. We've only really seen about half the movie vehicle designs, so we can't fully judge those. The ones we've seen seem to fit with the line. I don't have a lot of faith in the movie. But the toys look well designed, have great detail and likenesses, and fit in with Joe standards for articulation. They may not appeal to everyone's tastes, but they look like good toys. And I'm willing to give the movie a chance. It may not be the Joe movie I've had in my head for the last 25 years, but it may actually be enjoyable. |

For months, people have been opining on whether the film will hit or miss. I love Snake Eyes, but loathe what Wayans has done wih Ripcord. Bugged by the missing Czech accent of the Baroness, but am psyched about Scarlett. Everyone will eventually make their opinions about the film once it's out, and regardless, the film can never truly reflect the Sunbow cartoon, or the Marvel/Devil's Due run. Hell, I still complain about America's Elite to this day! But as Joe fans, we should experience it, and then make our opinions be heard, positive or negative.

Again, you're saying that the past/current toys are ruined by ROC. This is not true. They still exist. You can still enjoy them.

I will always be bitter because of this, it really sux too. Again Resolute has the path way set for a great an awsome figure and vehicle deisgns that are new and futuristic and also provides a great medium to bring about new characters like Helix and such...ROC not so much. It is more about making fun of and making a mockery of what the 80s was about...in that sense has ruined it.

No, it hasn't. If you're such a fanatic that you're letting the future ruin your past, that's ridiculous.
The 25A gave you blueshirts, Vipers, BATs, etc... Did you not buy them then? If not, why? It amazes me that people don't realize that if the movie were "100 percent accurate" to RAH, all we'd be getting are repaints and rehashes of the figures we've already gotten in the 25A line. Yeah, that'd be -real- exciting. I'm sure collectors would be scrambling all over themselves to get figures they already have. PS: If you think RoC will "dictate" what G.I. Joe is like forevermore, you clearly don't pay much attention to the toy aisles. Clone Wars didn't wipe away the Star Wars movies. The Transformers movie(s) didn't wipe away "classic" Transformers, either. But you refuse to even consider the notion that RoC won't wipe away "classic" Joe either, despite it being a proven Hasbro business model to return to "classic" product between films, because then your entire little tirade completely falls apart. Not that it was very coherent to begin with. Last edited by Jmacq1; 06-23-2009 at 07:24 AM.. |

I just wish that Cobra commander looks anything like his 3 original masks.

what has Wayans done with Ripcord? he didn't write the script. he didn't develop the idea. the movie was written with the character as a comedic sidekick, that was what he was hired to play, and that is how he is playing it. he hasn't done anything with the character.

Resolute, in contract, pays a lot of respect to the original source material, and i think that's why it's been better received by the 80s fans. When you see Cobra Commander, you can still tell right away that's CC. The USS Flagg looks modernized but familiar, and it's still called the Flagg, not the XJ3000 Laser Beaver or something.
The aspect of not straying from the source material doesn't really apply to Resolute with regards to Storm Shadow. In nearly every other series(aside Reloaded), he was never evil, flawed but not evil. In Sigma 6 he was brainwashed, in RAH towards the end he was brainwashed, but ultimately he is a noble, heroic character who has his own personal demons that he must fight off, unlike Snake Eyes who comes off as the innocent soldier with rather unfortunate circumstances, Storm Shadow is the man who deserves the mantle of leadership yet cannot attain it due to his personal demons. Yet that doesn't make him a willing participant in assassinations for Cobra nor did it make him hunt down Snake Eyes. Quote:
25th modern line is released which re-releases a lot of old vintage characters in an updated extremley nice redone true to form original concept to get everyone bought back into Joes. Embodies exactly what it used to and represents the characters as it should in card art and figure design.
The 25th line was great and I really wish it could be sold alongside the movie line. However it was not perfect and the amount of bitching done online up until now is undeniable proof of that. |
