Definately worth it to me. There's all sorts of updates and the pictures are better than the last version. There's also a little bit of real world knowledge tossed into the entries. The Flak Cannon for example, explaines where the name Flak came from in the real world.

For those who own both the 1st and 2nd editions, is it worth the upgrade? I already own the 1st edition ...

I already own the first edition, but found the second tonight at Barnes & Noble. I highly recommend the book. I'm returning it though, because I found it much cheaper on Amazon, for those interested in saving a few bucks.
Despite being really impressed by the first book, this is a vast improvement on something I already consider an essential part of any Joe collector's library. Between this book and YoJoe.com, where else can you find such a complete archive of Joes, with such crisp photography and added info? Thanks Mark, and thanks to the Tankers who supported his book and our little crazy hobby. |

I still dont understand why people insist on putting Duke and Cobra Commander on everything. I mean... why put the Leader of Cobra on there but not the Leader of GI Joe?
It doesnt make sense to put the first in command vs the second in command. It should always be Hawk vs Cobra Commander. You dont see, Ultra Magnus vs Megatron... No, its Optimus Prime vs Megatron. Name any other series that does this? This really iritates me. Rant done...for now

...Duke and Cobra Commander are the two most iconic characters for each side in the Joe vs. Cobra struggle. They MUST go on the front of the book, as they're both easily recognizable by both die-hards and casual fans as well. Krause's goal is to sell books.

I understand that, but Still, it shouldnt be that way. Hopefully someday someone will step up and break that loop. Its easy to make any character the "iconic" character for something. You just start plastering them on everything of that line. Then people start identifying.

Look at it this way, in my opinion, the HISS II renders the original HISS irrelevant, yet which one is more recognizable? The original. |

A cover of Hawk VS Cobra Commander or Hawk VS Serpentor won't sell as well. As much as I personally loathe Duke and prefer Hawk, he is more iconic than Hawk and more recognizable by casual fans, therefore having him on the cover is more profitable than having Hawk.
