Did Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje really leave LOST to make movies like this? Damn. Mr. Eko, you're still missed.

I've never seen a Sommer's film, other than Van Helsing, which I didn't like. I think the two major points for me were the script and the CG. I don't mind a little CG. Like it or not, it's become an expected part of the summer blockbusters... but with a budget like 170 mill, you're expecting good things. Now mind you, I'm looking at some fuzzy online clips but, the CG does king of remind me of Van Helsing 'calibre' CG. Some things just seem a little bit off. And so it begs the question: Where did all that money go???
All that being said, I'm still interested in seeing this play out. Although I'm not as fervent as many of you in my love of G.I. Joe, I can still recall playing with G.I. Joe and Transformers with my bros many years ago. I'm also wondering who is in charge of promoting this film 'cause their choice of spliced footage for the teaser, trailer and clip are awkward. Given what they've got, there HAD to have been better scenes to splice together than what they ended up using. It just seems random. To me, that more than anything would serve to alienate potential newbies from venturing out to see it. Having aired my concerns, I'm staying optimistic, with the potential of being disappointed OR satisfied... only a trip to the theatre will suffice. (I can justify it only because I've refrained from going to see much of the crap cranked out of hollywood in the last little while.. and so will remain guiltless in checking ONE summer blockbuster out.) I hate the suits, but I still say the helmets look like a throwback to the helmet and shields worn by Flash, Grand Slam and Short Fuse.

Get rid of the suits and you may have something decent. As it stands now, it's hard not to smirk. I'm sorry, I have great fondness for this property. But all that jumping and flipping around in the suits with CGI is just over the top.

I still hate how Snake Eye's mouth looks... it makes him look like a weird puppet or something.

I am genuinely excited for the movie but am trying to keep my expectations low which is hard b/c it's G.I. Joe.
The clip is good and although there is something about those accelerator suits I do not like, I will reserve my final judgment until I see them in the context of the whole movie. I liked Baroness and Storm Shadow in the clip and the line with the "real american heroes" may induce groans but brought a smile to my face. |
