I liked it. The "Joes" look stupid, something out of Halo or something, but the Baroness and Storm Shadow kick major asses.
Seems like the gunship is a helicopter with the blades digitally removed, that's why the toy looks like an incomplete helicopter.
I'll enjoy it. Not more than Resolute, but I think I'll have a good time.

THIS IS NOT GI JOE. this is something else. the irony of all this is what makes this film unattractive is that it has the gi joe title and the characters exists by name alone, but are not preserved in persona. otherwise, it looks like a damned cool action movie. summers has managed to completely remove the drama, romance, intrigue, mystery, tension, spirit, and *grit* of the 25 year old gi joe mythos. what the movie represents is a generic, watered-down, "safe" bastardization of something that many of us joe fans have come to love. every element of this film reeks... and that's mostly because it's a gi joe movie in name alone, but not by any degree of spirit. so that might be a harsh judgment prior to viewing the film, but does it really matter? what elements have been preserved in any recognizable fashion? all the elements of cobra and all the elements of gi joe (save for snake-eyes) all generic. destro, zartan, storm-shadow, the vipers, and cobra commander could easily have different names... same goes for all of the joe team. leave out the names and SS; call the film something else entirely, and who would have much inclination that it would be more than a new version of "Megaforce" (google it if you don't know). and to add to all the irony, i'm gladly going tp fork over my $10 to watch the movie because i'd do it anyway even if it were not titled gi joe and had no relation to the franchise.

While Hasbro/Parmount is not going to reveal exact numbers for GI Joe, I've seen the number $200million thrown around as the production cost. Although such a high number must be factoring in advertising of some sort.
Advertising usually hovers around half the production cost, although it can vary.
Whatever the actual numbers, I don't see GI Joe as being very successful. It has a limited international appeal, because the namebrand is associated with the American military. Also, theaters take a significant portion of the actual box office revenue. If the movie pulls in $200 million at the box office, theaters could end up with half that amount themselves. If this doesn't pull in international revenue, it'll sink. Hence, making the team international.
I just can't see this doing as well financially as Transformers. TF offered up something unique to film...giant robots. GI Joe doesn't have anything that distinct. Factor in early negative reaction to the advertising. And the potentially limited international box office. And lack of star power. Not looking good.

If they have spent over 10-100 million in adversiting already what do they have to show for it? A super bowl spot that is long and gone? Seriously...these clips are the best they got? The small little "8.7.09" banners on the internet? A few posters on ebay?
Wow I could have made a B grade version of GI JOE if they had given me that wasted amount of money...

Honestly I liked this... it looks like a fun action scene and the Baroness' "Real American Heroes" line at the end did not sound corny and was a great homage.
If the plot's better then what I heard (and honestly after Resolute ANY other take on Storm Shadow's origin would be nice... Resolute was great but that part left a bad taste in my mouth) I think I will enjoy this film.
Sure the action's going to be over the top but what did you expect from the Van Helsing guy?

Looks like a flippinng frenzy of a good time! I think it needs some more glass breaking though, I think they only smashed 10 panes or so. I'm sorry to all who are looking forward to this, but it looks, what word is more suitable than pathetic, lets just say horrific. How is it that perhaps one of the most far fetched cartoon from the 80's, seems more realistic than this live action film? Enjoy "GI Joe" the movie everyone who plans on seeing it. Oh yeah, love how they envoked the tagline in the dialogue, "real American heroes" clever, very clever.
