Thank you for being one of the few positive people that exist on this site. This movie looks fun. I'm going to enjoy watching it. Baroness and Storm Shadow are awesome. It's just like any other sci fi military type movie. This movie isn't anymore ridiculous or embarrassing as X-men or Star Trek.
People that don't like what we've seen so far, myself included, aren't necessarily negative people or aren't being just negative about this for arguments sake. I suppose some are, but I don't think the majority is. This movie looks absolutely horrible! Let me say I'm okay with the accelerator suits concept, but it (IMO, which everyone is entitled to, including yourself) looks ridiculous! The lame @$$ dialogue, the lame @$$ weapon, the lame @$$ Wayans,....it's too much and it's ruining this movie. It's not that we don't or wouldn't expect some things that come with the G.I. Joe name or franchise. That's a given. This movie just seems to be making a complete mockery or farce out of what we HOPED for. I for one was hoping for a movie based on the G.I. Joe universe but also bathed in reality....to a point. The heroes, villian, and vehicles of the Joe-verse, for me, have always been born from reality but taken a step further. I wouldn't have wanted to play with just army toys when I was a kid, but when they took it a step further and made it G.I. Joe it made it the coolest thing I grew up with and still collect today. To state that it's similar to (final opinions forthcoming after I see the whole thing) something like X-men or Star Trek is unfathomable to this Joe fan. IMO those were great movies and they took an idea, even something hard to bring to the screen (minus ST 'cause it's been on the screen FOREVER of course) and made it seem legit. The original X-men movie may be starting to show its age but for its time it was fantastic. Star Trek....so far my favorite movie of the summer! I do have to agree with you on one point. This movie does look fun. I just didn't realize I was going to go see a comedy instead of the well made action film I'd hoped for. |

Nobody is trying to get you to hate the movie. I would wager the vast majority of "haters" really wanted a good movie. Something to vindicate the thousands of dollas spent on their hobby. Something they could take their non-Joe fan friends to see. Instead we have been given this abortion. It's not really hard to find things to hate about this movie, all one has to do is look at the clip. And it just isn't the "haters" on here that are blasting the movie. Check out the "Aint it Cool" talkback forum for the clip. The people posting over there are movie fans, not Joe fans. And they are saying the exact same thing the "haters" on this board are saying.
Have you and your kind given thought maybe the "haters" are the ones with open minds? They are the ones who are honestly stating their opinions. The "haters" didn't want to hate this movie. They wanted to embrace it and be proud of it. They wanted a movie they could go see with their friends. But we all know that can't happen now. Maybe you will love the movie. Hey good for you. Maybe my taste in movies is different from yours. I'm sure there are people who thought the Street Fighter movie was the greatest thing ever. Hey good for you!... |

I'd rather we not even get a live action G.I. Joe film if they are not going to do it right. I don't understand the attitude that we should be happy that we are getting one no matter how bad it is. I loved He-Man as a kid but thought the old Masters of the Universe movie was terrible. I didn't sit around glad that we at least got one. And that was when I was a kid! How is it that grown adults are having this attitude?
yeah, clearly the "be happy we're getting a movie at all" attitude does not apply to me... |

so, it's your position that if a movie is made that you don't like but others might, you'd rather they not make it and nobody should have the opportunity to enjoy it just because you won't. do you really think that is a mature position?

After finally watching that, I feel embarrassed to say I'm a Joe fan. My friends and even the people I work with (none of whom are Joe fans BTW) have seen bits and pieces of the "Rise of Cobra" movie and unanimously think it's utter shit. Hell, I think it's shit, and even I can say something good about it! The only redeeming aspect of the movie is the toys don't look all that bad, but it's a pretty depressing reason to replace the 25th line that brought many of us back into Joe after all these years (I know, flogging a dead horse...)
The one thing people seem to have in common is that the movie doesn't look TOO bad, but it's not G.I.Joe, and I have to agree. Someone said in a post that at least the movie is better than anything we got in the cartoon. Like... what? The cartoon was aimed at six year olds, and the movie is for adults (or so I assume), and it still looks f*cking dumb like a kids show. I can't even believe there are people who think this'll be good (then again, they keep cranking out those awful "Transporter" movies 'cause some people like seeing those, too). I'm not trying to single out people and tell them their opinion is wrong, 'cause it isn't; rather, I want them to understand that they're a minority who like films the rest of the movie-going public think are horrible wastes of time. You shouldn't have to "feel compelled" to say something good about it just 'cause people are mostly negative. If you like RoC, fine, but the majority of movie-goers and Joe-fans alike seem to be pretty negative when it comes to thise film, so... what does that tell you? Maybe we know something you don't? |

Well, we "knew", but we hoped it would blow us away and eliminate our pessimism. Sadly, no. It only made things worse. How many former "wait and see-ers" became haters from that clip alone?

He's not talking about just his opinion. I think it's safe to say the majority of fans here and around the 'net agree that this movie is being done the "wrong way". I realize the statistics from the polls are really only good as anecdotal evidence, but still... most agree this movie looks baaaad. So it's not just "I won't like it, so it shouldn't be made", it's "If most people think it sucks, I'd rather it wasn't done". I agree.

Gotta disagree. Both those franchises were handled better than Joe appears to be. Well, Star Trek was handled extremely well. X-Men, not very well, but it still looked better than the clip we just saw of RoC. By faaar.
