I'm was pissed because there was never a notification, never an explanation. they just pretended the figures were never announced.

I disagree even about character selection. Every time this board does a survey of wanted figures in the good scale EVERYONE comes in with about a dozen good ideas. there is TONS of potential left in the good scale you just have to use a little more imagination or effort of even creativity than saying how can we get Duke, CC, SS, and SE back out again, There are so many untapped Cobra army builders alone I feel we could go one for decades.

I don't want to quibble or anything but it seems hard to connect the dots between what took place at SDCC 2016 and a G.I. Joe 6" line, given that it wasn't mentioned at all and people were generally pleased at the upcoming 1:18 offerings from Hasbro and reprieve given to the Club.

Hence why it's an opinion piece. Nowhere in the article does DESTRO state/claim/note that 6" offerings are a definite. |

At least, I am sure that is the cause of the confusion. |

Respectfully, then that needs to be made more clear. When the owner (?) of a site comes on, and emphatically states things like "GI Joe as we know it is coming to an end," and makes claims regarding new scales and the status of the collector community as a whole, that's a forum thread posting... not necessarily a "State of the brand" address on the front page. ;)
At least, I am sure that is the cause of the confusion. Fair enough...but, also with all due respect, reading comprehension might be lost on some: ...lesser known characters that appeal only to the core, the next movie would be a perfect time for G.I. Joe to get that long over due 6-Inch size class. I know there is a lot of controversy that surrounds starting a new size class. However if you take a look at what size class remains dominant in the current collector market it’s 6-Inch. The fact that the 3 3/4 Modern Era Line could still tread water along side a well produced 6-Inch Marvel Legends – Black Series Style G.I. Joe roster should keep the old school fans happy, and bring in the masses of new fans along with ones that missed out looking for that all important Jump-On point. No where does it say that 6" are coming, are happening, etc. What it does insinuate is that 6" figures might bode well if released in relation to the next movie. |

All Destro has to do is say "6 inch" and everyone loses their minds! Ha

I wouldn't collect a 6" Joe line for the same reason I won't collect a 6" Star Wars line. I'm not interested in starting my collection over from scratch at a higher pricepoint and getting primarily--if not only--core characters.

Not that I have anything against 6", (I don't, its a great scale when utilized to its fullest), I continue to feel it is simply unnecessary for Joe. Vehicles and accessories will be an integral part of a full scale relaunched line and 1:18 scale is simply the most accessible size and price wise for that. The articulation and detailing possible in 1:18 is completely satisfactory as well, I simply cannot make an argument for Joe in 6" other than its the only size they haven't tried.
Superheroes make a ton of sense at 6" as does WWE, where the characters are the bulk of the line and individual combat scenarios abound in the fictions, many hand to hand. It makes sense to have a larger figure as there are very little if any vehicles, etc and the larger scale lends itself to a more personal hand to hand combat type play style. GI Joe, and Star Wars for that matter, involve a more "army men" type of battle play where one conceivably is laying out larger scale battlefield scenarios alongside fighting with ranged weapons, none of which lends itself to 6" scale for a number of reasons. Sure, Star Wars has the black series, however I would argue that a) it also contains a more character driven interpersonal element and b) so much product has been produced they had to expand somewhere necessitating a new scale. Which brings me to.... The "daunting" barrier of starting a modern Joe collection. I have to respectfully disagree here as just about every other major toy line is likely far more daunting to start than a modern Joe collection. Star Wars? FORGET ABOUT IT. Your talking maybe 8 to 10 times the amount of product. Transformers? My god if you even think of dipping into the foreign aspect its simply mind scrambling. Marvel Legends? DC (Mattel produced and/or DC Direct)? That's a LOT OF PRODUCT. WWE? Shoot yourself. Ever seen how many Hot Wheels are produced in a year? TMNT aint no slouch either. LEGO? Your talking some serious price for older stuff as well as amount of product. You could make a case for Masters of the Universe classics fairly well but that's about it out of the MAJOR toylines. A modern era Joe collection (25th anniversary up) is really not that daunting at all compared to almost every other major toyline from availability, overall price, and amount of pieces. I'm assuming this years Joe line up you were referring to 4 new characters? Because theres certainly more than 4 new figures: Female Cobra Officer, Stilletto, Shooter, Tombstone, Duke, Heavy Duty, with SAW Viper a different build than the club and the first widespread release and that's not even counting Outback and Falcon (if you want to call them more repaints than new). Not counting the SDCC exclusive either since its limited. Which brings me to my final point... Exactly what, if any, surprise reveal was ANYONE REMOTELY EXPECTING at SDCC and if so, why?!!! It was emphatically clear all the reveals were at Joe Con as well as the "State of the Joe Union" for the next year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking these types of articles per se, it just seems to me an SDCC state of the union was wholely irrelevant as post Joe Con was really the most timely and relevant place for this piece. Incidentally, considering the lead up time required to prepare even a modest offering like this years line up, I think its time we did away with this narrative it was some crazy "last minute" product and simply admit that the State of the Union from earlier this year was pure and simply wrong about no 2016 line. Mistakes happen, its no big deal. No "face saving" narrative needs perpetuating otherwise.
