I'm assuming Lt. Clay Moore, from the Club Convention Set with the Night Stalkers. I think it was the Tanks For The Memories set.

Thanks. I don't remember him from the toons, and I joined the club when they switched to ME figure releases only.

Thanks ZBS!
I wonder if the Trooper helmet will fit on Tombstone. I am looking forward to making Claymore. |

I'm actually looking forward to the Tombstone figure, if for no other reason than I have no idea who the hell he is. Maybe he's from one of the comics. I don't know. But he's new to me. Same with Shooter and Stiletto. Either way, making new figures of new/obscure characters sure beats the hell out of re-issuing a character that's already had his time in the spotlight (*cough* Storm Shadow *cough*). Plus I'm happy to see more minority and female characters in the line, including a FEMALE Cobra officer who doesn't look like she's smuggling watermelons under her uniform*.
*In the interest of full disclosure, I still totally plan to buy one of these.

Tombstone is awesome as Tombstone. Lt. Claymore had hair under that helmet. He could have shaved it (Or cut it into Balrogs hair lol) but I'd rather have a brand new character with no previous story attachments.

I think Tombstone has some back story. If I remember correctly, he started out as a bodyguard to a multi-millionaire, then was President of Earth in the not too distant future, and finally he was the local bully of the block in LA. Now he's a Cobra leader. Pretty interesting.

I say Hasbro should try 6" Joes. The 6" action figure market is thriving. The super-articulated (SA) 4" mass market is dead. Production cost between 4" and 6" SA figures isn't very much, yet 6" can be priced higher and generate more revenue. So why would Hasbro continue to produce a product which can't even sustain itself anymore?
Regarding 4" having the advantage of vehicles. Not anymore. TRU didn't want vehicles this year. The only retailer who wanted to carry new Joes didn't want vehicles. Star Wars, the toy-selling gargantuan, barely has 4" scale vehicles anymore. I just don't see how vehicles can factor into the defense of the 4" line, when they don't sell well anymore. If vehicles are to be a part of GI Joe's future, the line needs to shrink scales. The Hasbro shared universe. Something no one has addressed yet. Hasbro's developing a shared universe between GI Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, and MASK. This might mean that all these potential toylines will be designed to work together. MASK is very vehicle-centric. If MASK's toyline is going to have vehicles, it might stand to reason MASK and GI Joe will share a scale. In order for this to work, I think Hasbro is going to have to shrink the Joe scale to something manageable for vehicles to be profitable (they're much costlier to develop than figures). I'm loving the Mega Bloks Call of Duty line. It allows for vehicles and super-articulated figures. Hell, you can assemble yourself a good-sized team of Joes with it right now. I think Hasbro should be inspired by this line. Small base bodies which can be reused and have parts swapped. Modular vehicles. The scale and design can work for the other shared properties too. Micronauts seems perfect for this approach. MASK as well. Maybe not necessarily brick-based, but something similar in terms of modularity. If a new scale means the death of 4"...so be it. 4" has had a great run, but it's just not profitable in today's maas toy market. Let 4" Joes remain with FSS. Other smaller companies can make stuff for it at higher pricepoints (Marauder, BFS, etc). Let 6" Joes try to reach a new consumer base of collectors (some spillover 4" fans, and plenty of 6" fans buying other brands who want Joes to mix in with those lines). Try a smaller sized Joe line to work with the Hasbro shared universe properties at mass market. This brand needs innovation, not regurgitation. |
